Hi all, I just refreshed my rescue cd with the latest grml sid daily. so according to the wiki page at http://wiki.grml.org/doku.php?id=accessibility i just have to wait until a musical tune will come up during boot. what i hear is the beep of the boot prompt but the musical tune is missing. ok the document has been last modified in 2013 so there could be have been a lot of changes. could someone please tell me how to start grml using software speech using speakup? should be the old way but it seems it doesn't reach the console. greetings and thanks, simon --- Diese E-Mail wurde von Avast Antivirus-Software auf Viren geprÃ¼ft. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

Help booting using iPXE

I recently ran into netboot.xyz and, being sad that it didn't support my favorite live distribution filed a feature request <https://github.com/antonym/netboot.xyz/issues/70>. I got an old image I had lying around to boot (specifically, grml64-small_2013.09.iso), but I couldn't get grml64-small_2014.11.iso to boot. When I try (testing in VirtualBox), the startup complains "modprobe: module dm-raid45 not found in modules.dep" and about module "echi-orion" and gets stuck at an initramfs prompt with the message "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system". Booting the same iso directly works correctly. Any advice?

some problems in using grml-live

Hi. I want to make a grml cd with some kernel changes and adding some packages. Now, I am using a system based on Jessie, but I want to build based on sid. I tried to install the linux-header package, but it would not install saying it needed kbuild4.1 which cannot be installed. Also, I tried to install the linux-source-4.1 package, but ehe .xz file is broken (unrecognized file format) when using tar Jxvf . How to solve these problems? When I tried to run apt-get install linux-source-4.1 from your repository, I get a file which will not unpack. ssh=password doesn't work

When the syslinux boot screen comes up, am I supposed to type "ssh=password" to start the ssh server? Or is it "grml ssh=password". I've tried both and neither seems to work. how to enable boot from hd after timeout?

Hi grml users, I remastered the grml cdrom in order to backup a windows computer. It should boot Windows form hard disk if the user does not hit any key within a certain amount of time. This is necessary in order to enable remote administration of the windows computer even if the cd rom is in the cd tray. There is this statement: ontimeout chain.32 hd0 0 in isolinux.cfg but instead when the countdown reaches zero one hears a beep and the count down beginns again (for 100 seconds). chain.32 is in boot/isolinux as is isolinux.cfg. Devuan, anyone?

The rather bold and (AFAIK) unasked for Debian switch to systemd is, to me as a sysadmin, problematic. Debian used to be THE stable sysadmin go-to distro, and now I have to choose between multi-user OR LVM; back to Windows pre-RT it is. In Stable, too. Me is sad panda. Or was I, until I switched my main systems to the kfreeBSD Debian port, and my "explore" systems to Devuan (aka "Debian without the systemd madness"). I have been using grml, as a rescue and analysis system, for a while now. I Keep a copy of the old version with all the cruft and the "cave" background photo just for fun ;-) so I'm all for tradition but seriously, isn't now the time to switch grml to a Devuan base, if only to show that sysadmins aren't quite dead yet? grml-live with custom kernel

I believe I have successfully built a grml kernel patched for hardware speech synthesizers. I need to get that into grml-live somehow. What I was thinking of doing was to create a local repository and then modifying the FAI configuration for grml-live to install the kernel from my local repository. Is there an easier way? It looks like you can specify files to be copied to your custom grml image by putting them into a directory tree and then pointing the CHROOT_INSTALL parameter at the tree. But there is no easy way to add/remove packages like that, right? I want to make it as easy as possible for me to make a new custom image whenever the grml development team releases a new version of grml.
