Hi, on the GNU Screen development mailing list, there's currently a thread which discusses how to get some drive in the GNU Screen development again. Amadeusz Sławiński (Cc'ed) has a git repo with some a little bit more disruptive changes at https://github.com/amade/screen/tree/devel/src In the following mail he describes what he changed and removed. (I've shortened the mail. "[…]" show points where I removed parts. Full mail at https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/screen-devel/2014-04/msg00008.html) One of the GNU Screen feature which are about to be dropped in the future is Screen's braille support. (Which is not enabled in Debian's screen package as far as I can see.) I know that there are quite some visually handicapped Grml users, so I send this mail to the debian-accessibility mailing list and the general Grml mailing list. Reply-To is set to the screen-users mailing list. (I don't read debian-accessibility, but both other lists.) I also allowed myself to Bcc some other heavy screen users I know personally. So if you use Screen's braille features (whatever they are exactly) or any other of the explicitly listed features in the mail below, and want to continue to using them, please speak up now. Upstream is also in need of someone testing (and maybe maintaining) that code. One potentially to be removed screen feature which IIRC is used by Grml by default is the nethack mode with a little bit more cryptic screen messages than by default. Grml - new stable release 2014.03 available

Hi, we just released Grml 2014.03 - Ponywagon. This Grml release provides fresh software packages from Debian testing (AKA jessie). As usual it also incorporates up2date hardware support and fixes known bugs from the previous Grml release. First Release Candidate of Grml version 2014.03 released

Hi, so we did it again, the first release candidate of the upcoming Grml version 2014.03, code-named 'Ponywagon' was released. This Grml release provides fresh software packages from Debian testing (AKA jessie). As usual it also incorporates up2date hardware support and fixes known bugs from the previous Grml release. For detailed information about the changes between 2013.09 and 2014.03 have a look at the official release announcement: http://grml.org/changelogs/README-grml-2014.03-rc1/ Please test the ISOs and everything you usually use and report back so we can complete the stable release soon. If no major problems come up, the next iteration will be the stable release, which is scheduled for the end of March (2014 ;)). PS: As you might notice the ISOs increased again (e.g. from ~350MB to 400MB for grml-full), if someone is interested in reducing the ISO we welcome any patches, concrete feedback,.. Typo or missing feature and a basic question

I'm new to grml so please excuse me if this on wrong list or similar. Recently I've tried to install debian using grml and I found something that could be a typo: Line 136 of config file: # Run scripts from /etc/debootstrap/pre-scripts/ after setting up chroot. Shouldn't it state "/etc/debootstrap/scripts/" ? In config file I've found extrapackages, but on the man page of grml-debootstrap there is no option extrapackages. Is this intentionally? This option is not implemented or simply not documented? Additionally , I would be grateful for a help on how to use scripts from "scripts" direcotry. My plan was to add a script to compile a program (for instance dwm), however I was unable to achieve this. I'm unsure if this is feasible at all, and whether I'm positioned at the right directory (or how to check that). I invoked command with the -d flag: grml-debootstrap -d FILE Finally, I have troubles at debugging debootstrap stages. If someone would show me how to do that, perhaps I could solve the previous problem by myself. I've read somewhere about install_notes file that could be used for this, but I haven't found much on it - assuming that I understood that correctly. Thanks in advance.

grml-debootstrap VM creation broken due to bug in kpartx?

Hi! My grml-debootstrap configuration is here: https://github.com/adrelanos/minimal-grml-debootstrap-test (I think it's quite useful to have a single script/configuration around for producing minimal instructions on how to produce that bug.) grml-debootstrap keeps failing for me. umount: /mnt/debootstrap.23035: device is busy I guess it could be because this bug in kpartx: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=734794 Cheers, adrelanos

grml virtual machine

I want to create a custom grml ISO that has a kernel patched for hardware speech synthesiers. There's a bug in the kernel code so most hardware speech synths don't work. If I can put ma custom compiled kernel on a grml disk, I can use it with my hardware speech synth. The man page for grml-live recommends running it on a virtual machine running grml. That sounds like a good idea. I have a VMWare player virtual machine booted into grml from the latest 32-bit iso file. But I am uncertain as to what to do next. Should I use grml2usb or grml-debbootstrap or something else? What's the best way to set up a virtual machine to run grml?

Cannot find code to color by file extensions on an ls

I just opened a new bug report (http://bts.grml.org/grml/issue1286) wherein I ask to have some file extensions added to the list to color red on an `ls` but find myself clueless where exactly this "color these extensions red on an ls" resides. The only thing I can find in /etc/zsh/zshrc begins on line #3116 but I do not understand it. Can someone point me to where this list is defined? My request should be as easy as adding the new extensions to some array I would think. Thanks!
