grml-live, how to hold back packages

Hi, How can I use a specific version of package (instead of the latest one) when building with grml-live? Side question, current grml uses aufs-tools version 0+20090302, whereas the current aufs-tools version is 20100601-1. Is there anywhere I can find this aufs-tools version 0+20090302 that is used to build grml? Help with a new complex installation

Hi list, I was trying to install a stable release of Debian on a new server but I've found that the default kernel that comes with the official installer doesn't recognize the SATA controller that the motherboard has because it seems that is a board newer than the kernel. Then, I've booted the computer with a grml64 and it recognize well the controller and the two SATA disks attached to it. The two SATA disks are of the same type and size. I would like to use Raid1 for redundancy and LVM2 to manipulate the space and add of additional disks easily. I would also like to use XFS to test it since for what I read it's better than reiserfs and ext3 for journaling and performance. So, could you help me with this?. Reading about grub2, it can recognize RAID1, LVM and XFS partitions, but I don't know if it can do it if I use them all together for the "boot" directory. So, on the partition part, should I use a small (128Mb) RAID1+ext3 partition for the "boot" directory containing the initrd file and then the rest with RAID1+LVM+XFS?. How can I use grml to perform all this and have a stable Debian working on this server with this configuration?. Thanks for all. Ernesto

Hallo zusammen, ich möchte grml-Monster (i386) dazu bringen meine HD (/dev/sdc) im Netzwerk per iscsi anzubieten, bekomme aber immer die Fehlermeldung im syslog: grml ietd: can't create a target 2 0 Ich habe: /etc/default/iscsitarget bearbeitet: ISCSITARGET_ENABLE=true /etc/ietd.conf Target grml-iscsi:storage.sdc Lun 0 Path=/dev/sdc,Type=blockio Alias ISCSI-Target HeaderDigest CRC32C DataDigest CRC32C dann habe ich den Dienst gestartet mit: /etc/init.d/iscsi start bzw. auch mal restart Mache ich das was falsch, wenn ja, was. HD write protected and grml rescue mode

Hi, I get HD write protected warning when launching testdisk. As the aftermath, testdisk can't update the MBR: write_mbr_i386: starting... Store new MBR code file_nopwrite(4,1,buffer,0(0/0/1)) write refused write_all_log_i386: starting... write_all_log_i386: CHS: 9436/0/1,lba=151589340 file_nopwrite(4,1,buffer,151589340(9436/0/1)) write refused I never have such hard disk being write protected warning/error before. grub2 loopback feature

Hi! I'd like to use the loopback feature of grub2 to boot a grml iso-image that resides on a USB drive. Is there a way to make grub jump to the existing /boot/grub/grub.cfg in the ISO and show its contents as a submenu? I am thinking about something like: /boot/grub/grub.cfg on USB drive: -------------------- 8< -------------------- menuentry 'GRML' { iso_path=/iso/grml_2010.04.iso bootid=grml201004 export iso_path export bootid loopback loop $iso_path set root=(loop) configfile /boot/grub/grub.cfg } -------------------- 8< -------------------- Unfortunately, when selecting the menuantry above, my box reboots. When trying the same on the grub commandline, it reboots at "set root=(loop)". So root=loop doesn't seem to be supported... On the other hand, "configfile (loop)/boot/grub/grub.cfg" perfectly jumps to grmls boot menu. But when using this approach, I guess some support in grml's grub.cfg would be needed so that grub can correctly locate the image files. (Maybe a $loop variable prepended to all filenames in grmls grub.cfg, which is conditionally set to "(loop)"?) Any other hints? Hi, I've just submitted a feature request named grml2usb installation structure consideration at http://bts.grml.org/grml/issue874 I'm soliciting your comments are a normal user. Here is the repost of the content of the feature request. Currently, grml2usb install to the destination pen drive with the structure like this: . . . ./live/grml-medium/grml-medium.squashfs ./live/grml-medium/filesystem.module ./boot/release/grmlmedium/linux26 ./boot/release/grmlmedium/initrd.gz ./boot/syslinux/defaults.cfg ./boot/syslinux/grml.png ./boot/syslinux/hd.cfg ./boot/syslinux/isolinux.cfg ./boot/syslinux/grml_medium_default.cfg . . . I.e., every aspect of boot component has been seamlessly mingled into proper places. This is one way to arrange things, proper things go to their respective proper places (referred as plan-A afterward). However, I hope that the installation structure can take another approach -- all files go into a single directory, say /os/grml-medium-2010.04/ for example (referred as plan-B afterward). Here is my view of plan-B and plan-A: - directory structure. plan-B: self contained. plan-A: complicated, distro-specific related files spread arosss multiple directories. - organization: straightforward vs mixed-up. Use /boot/syslinux/ for example, plan-B contains only files originally from syslinux, nothing else, whereas plan-A contains files from all different flavours. - management: easy vs hard. Use deleting a flavour for example, plan-B just need to use a single command to remove (/os/grml-medium-2010.04/); plan-A: so complicated to do it manually that it is better to write another script to do it. - cooperate ability. relaxed vs strict. For example, when I want to try a new grml (beta) release, plan-B allows me to try it out parallel at /os/ grml-medium-newdate/ via for plan-A, the only way is to overwrite the version that I've been accustomed to and left with something risky. Right, it's not entirely correct. If you close multiple grml-chroot instances in the wrong order you will experience mountpoints from grml-chroot not cleand up.
