I use grml-0.3-small under qemu emulator and I find the window size too large fit on visible display. Is there a way to make it little smaller like: 800x600 or so? -ishwar

Jake, I did have grub resume. It managed to resume once, without shutting off all power to the machine (and that means also yanking power from the supply. Upon restoring power, that's when my issue happened. What is the best-file system for grml, and suspend/resuming?

I attempted to install grml automatically with an XFS file system. Then, I installed grub, like this. grub root (hd0,1) setup (hd0) Then, rebooted. Then, I did: echo disk >/sys/power/state The box hibernated. Then after about 3 minutes (note that I did not as yet try cutting all power) I turned it back on, and it resumed. So then, I performed a second test. I hibernated it again. But this time, (I shut off the power) (and it should have, retained the information and resumed anyways) but, it didn't. In fact, the machine did not eaven boot up. Took me thousands of hard-forceful shut-downs and more, before I could get the computer working properly again. Note:This all occured under an XFS file sytem. So, I've decided not to use that one. Mikap: What file system do you use yourself, and, what file systems have you tested? I want someone (if this has never been done) to test this out by hibernating a system with all the file systems GRML supports, and in every test shut off all power for about 5 minutes, turn on all power, turn on the computer, and see if it resumes. permission denied on copy

Greetings... Why was "permission denied" when root uses Rox-filer to try to copy file from pendrive to another folder (when permissions seem to be set as owner read and write)? Thanks. Happy holidays and best wishes for 2007. wahmd

Last month, there was an article in Debian Administration linking back to grml: http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/464 Recently, there is also an wiki entry at wikia.com linking back to grml: http://tovid.wikia.com/wiki/Making_a_DVD_with_text_menus I heard for Google search engine, the more sites link to a certain site, the more important Google will think the site is, and the more likely search results will come near the top... A question about GRML2hd, how many options can it accept at once?

Hi all, How many options is grml2hd capable of handeling at one time, Mika? I.e. Suppose I wish to disable the remove-packages-server script from running, and at the exact same time tell it to run the isntaller and install in automatic mode. So: Suppose I've set the boot_partition in /etc/grml2hd/config as /dev/hda, and the main root as /dev/hda2. Now: If I wanted to: Could I just type the following into grml2hd? NOSWREMOVAL=1 GRML2HD_NONINTERACTIVE=1 into the prompt and hit return and have it work? Or, does GRML2hd not accept that type of command structure. Mika: I have read the manual page from http://www.GRML.org/GRML2hd plentty of times, and do know the commands. I'm asking more about if grml2hd can accept multiple options at once before running it. Take a look at my example, and just let me know if that would work. What I am attempting to do, is have an automatic installation of GRML Linux, and still have all packages, all without one being removed. I have plentty of space on my disk to hold all of them, without a problem--it's 300 GB or so. That's plentty of space for what I would like to do. BTW..Marry Christmas to the grml mailing list! Framebuffer mode setting

We're not clear how mode selection works for framebuffer. The file /etc/fb.modes lists many modes. We want 1280x1024-60. The choice matches a vendor 'preferred timing mode' for optimal monitor performance. We run this mode in X fine. The problem is framebuffer. We do not get how to ask grml for 1280x1024-60. No fbset commands or lilo configs seem to do it. We get, instead, 1280x1024-77 or some other unexpected v-refresh, not even listed in fb.modes. We tried a 'special name' for mode 1280x1024-60 to work with lilo commands and it also failed. (Actually we made a duplicate mode with a different name in fb.modes.) The grml 0.9 live CD also does something weird. We boot 'grml fb1280x1024' but end up with lower resolution framebuffer, 1024x768. It seems that grml cheatcodes do not allow arbitrary selection from fb.modes, but only 3. We cannot rely on automatic mode selection. We need to state the modes we want. We use KVMs quite a bit, which ruin DDC queries to monitor firmware, and also we run LCDs on analog video, not digital. This combination works fine in the right driving mode. Thanks, Mark

Supplying multiple commands to GRML2hd

Hi all, Is it possible to configure an automatic installation of GRML through editing /etc/grml2hd/grml2hd.conf, or whatever, and ten to say: grml2hd NOSWREMOVAL=1 grml2hd NON_INTERACTIVE=1? Or do I type something else. Also, Could I review an example configuration file for an automatic grml2hd installation somewhere to get an idea of what one looks like? I am not currently at an GRML system, and am using the school computers here to type this message. If I could look at one just to get an idea, that would help. :) Regards, --Keith
