When will the next release be out, and will the 64-bit version include speech?

Hi, I have been waiting for the new release. I mentioned the spelling problem in the earlier version, and I know that that has all been fixed. However, I have bought a new 64-bit machine since that time, and have had to go to a graphical distribution. It works ok, but I really miss all of my command line favorites. I wish to know when the next release of grml will be availalble. I would also like to know if the new 64-bit version will work with software speech. I tried the current amd64 version, but got neither speech nor sound when running the following: at boot: grml swspeak The system seems to boot ok, but, when it stops, I run swspeak I hear the disk spin, but there is no speech nor is there any sound. It seems to have something to do with the audio on this machine, because the listings of all the controls in aumix indicate that most of the volume settings such as mic, pcm, phin, phout, and more are missing. The only thing I can really tell you about this machine, since I do not know hardware all that well is that it is a Compaq Presario f-700 laptop with a dual-core 64-bit amd processor. The video, which I do not nor cannot use is nvidia or something like that. I do know what kind of sound hardware is on here. Is there anything I am doing wrong. Please help me return from the graphical nightmare world. Thanks. Doug Smith

Hi, Several misc questions regarding grml-debootstrap... - Does debootstrap download packages? If yes, where does it place downloaded packages? - Since grml-debootstrap also install packages defined in /etc/debootstrap/packages into the chroot system, is it a good idea to bind mount /var/cache/apt/archives into the chroot system as well, so as to save the downloading and cleaning up? - furthermore, I think over 99% people would have same apt/sources.list and apt/preferences in host and chroot system. bts difficulites

Hi mika, I tried to submit a bts to grml Bug Tracking System <submit(a)bugs.grml.org> yesterday. I made 3 attemps (across 7 hours), but today when I check, my bts is still not in the system. Change Speech language according to the lang cheat-code

Hello all I don't know if there is time enough to add this feature for the next GRML stable release. Anyways, here is my request: Whenever one chooses a language at the boot prompt by issueing the lang cheat-code, and then issue swspeak too, it would be nice if the ESpeak synthesiser came speaking in that specified language. In my case it would be Brazilian Portuguese (pt_BR). I don't have technical skills enough to submit a patch, but I'm almost sure it can be done editing both "/etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf" and "/etc/speech-dispatcher/modules/espeak.conf" files. installing dhcpcd requires removing grml packages

Hi I would like to say: aptitude install dhcpcd but aptitude wants to remove pump which in turn want to remove : grml grml-autoconfig grml-debugtools grml-etc grml-x grml2hd This seems like a lot of change. Is it possible to use dhcpcd without making grml unstable ? Also, I was wondering, according to various threads I read, if dhcpcd is not superior to pump, so why has it not been selected for the distribution ? Thank a lot Peter

Hi, During my recent (massive) 'aptitude safe-upgrade', my file-rc was automatically removed. Is grml still using file-rc? I want to use back the file-rc. Any precautions I should take? [grml2usb] Minimize the number of files in the root directory on the usb drive

Hello! When I copy grml to a usb pen drive with grml2usb, it puts 30 files and directories into the root directory of that drive. Since I also want to use that drive for other stuff (like portable apps, multimedia files etc.) it's not nice to see my drive cluttered with dozens of files when I access it in some file manager. I've seen some live systems (I guess it was http://sidux.com/) which only need very few files to boot and put almost all of them into some subdirectory so that my directory structure stays pretty clean. It would be nice if grml could achive something similar, or are there any good reasons against this? Sebastian
