Die Eisenbahn und das Kino gehören, als Fabriken der neugewonnenen Unruhe und Ortlosigkeit, seit je zueinander. Den elektrischen Schatten setzt man sich auf eigenes Risiko aus, angeleitet von den Messieurs Lumière, die am Bahnsteig in La Ciotat 1895 auch die Ankunft der bewegten Fotografie feierten, oder vom jungen René Clair, der einen Leichenwagen in Entr’Acte 1924 auf Berg- und Tal-Schienenfahrt schickte. Auch Peter Tscherkasskys Achterbahnfahrt durch das Terrain eines planvoll, Bild für Bild eskalierenden Kinos beginnt mit frenetischer Aktion und einer Staffelübergabe: Kutschen und Reiter konkurrieren ein letztes Mal noch mit der Eisenbahn, die einen gegen die andere geschnitten und schwindelerregend ineinander geblendet. So beschwört er Himmel und Hölle herauf, geht auf Kollisionskurs, zielt unerschrocken ins Apokalyptische. Man könnte diesen hochkomplexen, zugleich ganz elementaren Film ein Action-Experiment aus der Dunkelkammer nennen, einen Underground-Blockbuster oder auch kinetische Malerei in tausend Graustufen. Er ist aus zuckenden Kadern und blitzendem Licht gemacht, aus spektakulär kollabierenden Motiven, ein konkret-abstraktes Kino der Über-Attraktionen und der Raserei. Train Again ist eine ekstatische Ode an die Fragilität und die Sprengkraft des Mediums.
