Jahrhunderts. Das Leitmotiv ihrer Malerei, das Sichtbarmachen ihres Körperbewusstseins („Body Awareness“), fand in den 1970er Jahren in New York auch filmischen Ausdruck. Und was für einen! Beeinflusst von Malerei, aber auch dem US-amerikanischen Experimentalfilm, der feministischen Bewegung, dem Animationsfilm sowie ihrer neuen Heimatstadt New York schuf Lassnig in einigen wenigen Jahren einen beachtlichen Korpus an radikal eigenständigen Kurzfilmen.<br class=""><br class="">Während einige dieser Arbeiten zum Lassnig-Kanon zählen, blieben viele Filmwerke dieser Schaffensphase unvollendet und unveröffentlicht. Ihre „Films in Progress“, zugleich autobiografische Notiz und gestalterisches Experiment, in denen sich viele Sujets und Techniken aus ihrem Werk wiederfinden, wurden von zwei engen Vertrauten – Mara Mattuschka und Hans Werner Poschauko – aufgearbeitet und im Sinne ihres ursprünglichen Konzeptes sowie Lassnigs Aufzeichnungen folgend 2018 fertiggestellt.<br class=""><br class="">Der neue Band in der Reihe FilmmuseumSynemaPublikationen stellt Maria Lassnigs filmisches Werk in den Mittelpunkt und bietet anhand von Essays, dem ersten umfassenden Verzeichnis von Lassnigs filmischer Arbeit und einer großen Auswahl ihrer eigenen, bisher unveröffentlichten Notizen Einblick in die Ideenwelt der Filmemacherin.<br class=""> <br class="">Das Buch enthält Texte von James Boaden, Beatrice von Bormann, Jocelyn Miller, Stefanie Proksch-Weilguni und Isabella Reicher sowie ausführliche Gespräche zur Wiederentdeckung und zur Restaurierung der Filme. Die Kooperation mit der Maria Lassnig Stiftung ermöglichte es, erstmals in einer Publikation das bildnerische Werk Lassnigs, ihre Skizzen und Notizen zum Film und die filmische Arbeit einander gegenüberzustellen.
