Scheirl zählt hierzulande zu den Pionier*innen in der Entwicklung einer queeren Film- & Kunstsprache, die Mitte der 1980er Jahre via kurzer, fetziger Super-8-Punk-Filme ihren Anfang nahm. Die stets in kollaborativen Prozessen entstandenen Filme – u.a. mit <em class="">Ursula Pürrer</em> oder <em class="">Jewels (nun Jason Elvis) Barker</em> – sind Ausdruck eines von Leidenschaft sprühenden DIY-Kinos, das subjektiv empfundene Leerstellen zu füllen versucht und spielerisch Performancekunst, Malerei, Bühnenbild, Musik mit sexuellen Fetischen und expressiven filmischen Anleihen kombiniert.<br class="">Neben den Filmen blicken wir in Form einer kleinen Lesung auf ein Interview zurück, das Johanna Schaffer und ich vor 15 Jahren noch mit Hans Scheirl (ab 2016 Ashley Hans Scheirl) führten und gleichen es mit der Gegenwart ab. präsentiert und tauchen als eigenständiges Werk, aber auch als Teil
einer Installation in diversen Ausstellungskontexten auf. Talking Screen
will der Frage nach den vielfältigen Präsentationsformen von Filmen im
Ausstellungskontext, aber auch den medienübergreifenden Interferenzen zu
anderen künstlerischen Praktiken nachgehen.
Die mit den Gästen gemeinsam konzipierten Präsentationsformate sind
bewusst offen gehalten und sollen facettenreiche Spielarten der
(performativen) Selbstpräsentation genauso beinhalten, wie einen
kritischen Diskurs über filmische Formate & Formen ermöglichen. Als
jeweiliges Setting ist an eine Kombination von Filmbeispielen, Gespräch
und Mini-Schauen für einen Tag gedacht.
