So sind es Bilder, die sich als unsere persönliche und kollektive Geschichte manifestieren. Die Produktion, der Konsum und die Instrumentalisierung von visuellem Material wirkt fortlaufend auf das soziale und ästhetische Bildgedächtnis ein und trägt so zum Verständnis von Kultur und Zeitgeschehen bei. Mit dem Ausstellungsprojekt I</span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;" >mage Wars. Macht der Bilder</span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" > präsentiert das Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien Videokunstwerke von sechs internationalen Künstler_innen, die die Mechanismen zwischen gegenwärtiger Bildrezeption und Erinnerungskultur aufgreifen. Besondere Schlagkraft verfügt diese immer noch neue Macht der Bilder im Zusammenhang mit repräsentierter oder real ausgeübter physischer oder psychischer Gewalt, dem Erlebnis von persönlichem oder kollektivem Trauma. So it is images that are manifested as our personal and collective history. The production, consumption, and instrumentalization of visual material continually affects social and aesthetic visual memory and thus contributes to our understanding of cultural and historical events. With the exhibition project </span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;" >Image Wars: The Power of Images</span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" >, the Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien, is presenting video art works by the international artists Kader Attia, Cana Bilir-Meier, Melvin Moti, Rabih Mroué, Mario Pfeifer, and Marlies Pöschl that take up the mechanisms between the contemporary reception of images and the culture of memory. This still new power of images has particular impact in the context of represented or actually practiced physical or psychological violence, with the experience of personal or collective trauma. In ihrer strukturell signifikanten und darin fragilen, gebrochenen Virtuosität arbeitet Zeilner an figurativ-abstrakten Bildräumen voller kritischer wie farbenprächtiger Andeutungen über das Dasein als Malerin unter Malern – wie von Frauen unter Männern. In geselligen Szenen des Zusammenseins und des gemeinsamen Erlebens von fiktiven Western- und realen Künstler-Bars werden tendenziell heldenhafte und überzogene männliche Gesten mittels eines speziellen Farb- und Formgefüges kritisch bis humorvoll hinterfragt und erfrischend neu gesetzt, beispielsweise in Auseinandersetzung um Bar-Bilder bei Nicole Eisenman, Jörg Immendorff oder Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.<br/><br/></span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;color: #000000;" >Im Verlag für moderne Kunst erscheint ein umfangreicher zweisprachiger Katalog im grafischen Design von Thomas Kussin, mit zahlreichen Abbildungen aktueller Malerei und Zeichnung sowie weiterführenden Texten von Jurriaan Benschop, Sandro Droschl, Denise Milstein und Thomas Raab. </span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" ><br/><br/></span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" ><a href="https://www.km-k.at/de/exhibition/gerlind-zeilner/text/"><span style="" >Mehr lesen zu Gerlind Zeilner …</span></a> <br/><br/></span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;" >Gerlind Zeilner</span><span style="font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" > is interested in the tensions and ambiguities within painting, including pictorial ideas shaped by a male-dominated art history that tends to the clichéd. In her structural significant and therein fragile, broken virtuosity, Zeilner works on figurative-abstract pictorial spaces full of critical and colorful suggestions about the existence of a female painter among male painters—of women among men.
