The Wire Magazine # 341 July 2012 The idea of Turkish culture resold as ' exotica ' for aural tourists also concerns Serhat Köksal, a dissident multimedia artist and favourite of the late John Peel, As 2/5BZ , Köksal records fascinating electro cut -ups incorporating excerpts from old Turkish films . He claims that some protest singers like formidable Selda Bağcan , who was jailed several times by the military regime after 1980 coup and remains a critical voice, are being ideologically santised as they are remarketed '' Mostly, these works are stripped from their socio-political content /context and diminished to a merely entertaining tune/sound/visual '' Köksal argues .
