*
Ava Mendoza is a guitar player/composer who plays in a wide range of 
settings-- heavy rock/free jazz/modern classical/blues and country. In 
any context, her music finds a wobbly path between expressive 
melodicism, atonality and sonic abstraction. She has performed/recorded 
with Marco Eneidi, Nels Cline (Wilco, Nels Cline Singers), Henry Kaiser, 
Ben Goldberg, Kenny Wollesen (Sex Mob), Mike Watt (Minutemen), Scott 
Amendola, members of ROVA saxophone quartet, Gino Robair, Weasel Walter 
(The Flying Luttenbachers) and contemporary classical ensemble SF Sound.
Mute Socialite, her no wave/free jazz band (co-founded with drummer Moe! 
Staiano of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum) busily toured the U.S. and 
released albums 2006-2009. Mendoza has also toured the U.S. and Europe 
extensively with Carla Bozulich (The Geraldine Fibbers, Evangelista), 
Butch Morris' Nublu Orchestra, members of Caroliner, and Theatre of 
Yugen. Her solo record, Shadow Stories, was released on Resipiscent in 
spring 2010.

Here's what she has to say about her solo work:
"My solo work draws a lot from early country and blues tunes, reworked 
(mangled?) in my own way. In any music context I tend to tread a wobbly 
line between melodicism, atonality and sonic abstraction. Solo guitar 
writing and arrangement started out for me as a kind love letter to some 
classic songs that were near and dear to me. It has turned into more of 
a love letter to the endless adaptability of songs, to all the different 
ways they can be personalized--whether through subtle arrangement 
idiosyncrasies, or through melodic and sonic forraying to the point of 
waywardness, unrecognizability, and transformation."

just bend blue notes; she wads them up into a ball and throws them up

Portland / Us wird mehr und mehr zum Hafen der spannenden 
experimentellen Klängen. Man denke auch an das kürzlich unglaubliche 
Konzert der Emeralds kürzlich in der Postgarage (oder einem Jahr davor
am Elevate Festival), ergänzend an die Klängen eines Mark McGuire, Bands 
wie The Slaves oder The Greys. SPORAY heisst die neueste Entdeckung, die 
neue Band rund um die Noiserin EVA AGUILA. Bisher ist sie unter dem 
Namen Kevin Shields aufgetreten, spielte in Gang Wizard und 
veröffentlichte bisher auf den Kultkrachlabels wie Ecstatic Peace, Load 
Records oder Deathbomb Arc, u.a. eine Split mit Sonic Youth' Thurston 
Moore. An diesem aussergewöhnlichen Konzertabend präsentiert sie auch 
ihr neuestes Release auf dem Grazer Label Dilemma Records. Die 
zweitePerson in SPORAY: Brock Fansler, ganz bescheiden "just a creator 
of collage and noise". MSHR ist das Solo Projekt von Brenna Murphy von 
Birch Cooper der neuen Band des Künstler Kollektives Oregon Painting 
Society's. Improvisiert abstrakt mit  selbstgebauten Instrumenten und 
Programmen. Gemeinsam werden die drei an diesem Abend auftreten und uns 
definitv mit dem neuem Sound aus Portland einwickeln!

*Toba*

Das italienische Trio Toba macht Popmusik. Experimentelle Popmusik. 
Irgendwo in der Umgebung von Björk oder Tujiko Noriko.
Die Sängerin Patrizia Oliva war solo schon beim Interpenetration 
Festival zu hören und mit dem grossartigen Trio Gravida schon mehrmals 
zu Gast in Graz. Für Toba hat sie sich mit dem Bassisten Tommaso Rolando 
und dem Gitarristen Marco Ravera zusammengetan. Ihre neue Platte wird 
sie in Graz im Duo mit Tommaso Rolando präsentieren.
