*KNIFEHANDCHOP*
Billy Pollard became known as Knifehandchop after releasing his first
album at age 18. He has been consistently producing fresh, new music
ever since, and you can always count on each release sounding different
than the previous one.
His style blends elements of electro, hip-hop, house, techno, booty, and
dancehall reggae to produce songs that either fit into one of these
genres, or blend them together to create something unclassifiable and
uniquely his own.
Early in his musical career, Knifehandchop released a string of popular
and illegal 7” records and CDs for British record label ‘Irritant
Records’. These records used un-cleared samples scattered over huge
beats, which resulted in loads of mainstream magazine attention, being
covered by Mixmag, Muzik, URB, XLR8R, Vice Magazine and more.
Since that point, he has becoming a longtime staple of kid606's
Oakland-based Tigerbeat6 records, releasing his two most recent albums
through them.
In 2003 Knifehandchop recorded a live session for the late John Peel for
his immensely influential radio show on BBC Radio 1. Mary Anne Hobbes
of the Radio 1 Breezeblock show is also a huge supporter of
Knifehandchop, and a session was recorded for her show in 2004. These
radio sets were recorded during extensive tours of Europe, America and
Japan that included huge festivals or dirty raves, depending on the
occasion.
After ‘How I Left You’ was released, Knifehandchop changed his focus
from releasing full-length albums to making singles and 12” records
featuring a new sound that is tailored to the dance floor. His first
production in this regard was the much-hyped booty anthem ‘Dirty New
York’ on Tigerbeat6. Modeselektor and Knifehandchop have also teamed up
for a split release on Shockout records called ‘Weed Wid Da Macka’ which
features vocals by famed Jamaican dancehall star Ninjaman. This was
followed by a huge electro remix by Knifehandchop of the smash UK single
“Thou Shalt Always Kill” by Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip on Lex Records.
While recording these new techno-dance records, Knifehandchop has also
been throwing a series of successful over the top parties in Toronto
called Math Hooker.

*DURAN DURAN DURAN*
Duran Duran Duran is a breakcore band consisting of Ed Flis, Michael
Chaiken, and Tony Gabor. Philadelphia-based Ed Flis is the main working
member and does most live shows by himself.
Like most breakcore Duran Duran Duran's music is reminiscent of the rave
music of the early 1990's. However, Ed Flis admits to not being heavily
influenced by the rave scene himself. Evident in both his music and his
performance persona, four of his defining characteristics are heavy
metal, illegal drugs, hip-hop and pornography, especially homosexual
pornography. Flis often performs in a Rainbow Brite outfit with clothe
pins attached to his genitalia, claiming that this inspires him to "rave
harder and longer."
Duran Duran Duran's music is more a reaction to the IDM's staleness than
a direct continuation of early rave. As he puts it: "Rave is cheap,
tossed-off, drug-damaged and rocking. IDM is pretentious, boring and not
fun.
In January 2005, Duran Duran Duran's full album "Very Pleasure" was the
first release of Jason Forrest's Cock Rock Disco label. The album takes
from hip-hop, rock and ragga and samples from 80s hits like Ace of Base,
but also metal like Slayer. With a painting of two naked men frolicking
in a field on the cover and song titles like "Manrammer", the album
reflects Ed Flis' pseudo gay propaganda, intended to shock a more
mainstream audience. His recent releases bring him closer to the booty,
electro, techno style of Knifehandchop, formerly also a breakcore artist.
