9 remote performers from 9 different locations
are reunited in a real-time broadcasting in the
context of the Mapping Festival in Geneva, the
culminating point to a 3 day workshop exploring
the performative aspect of the infosphere. The
workshop made use of existing communication tools
to experiment with the integration of
dramaturgical elements linked to the constraints
of working with a delocalised group to develop a
video performance.

Remote Participants:
Aether Collective Geneva (Switzerland)
N3krozoft Group Brussels - n3krozoft.com (Belgium)
cym - cym.net - wd8.org - Walkersdorf (Austria)
Nathalie Fougeras - nathaliefougeras.org/Liens2 - (France)

In the vein of such precedents in
'teleperformances' as 'Hole in Space' (1980),
Videodrome (1983), planetary network (1986 @
Venice Biennale), Piazza Virtuale (1992 @
Documenta 9), the participants worked together
locally and with their delocalised partners on
the theme of Aether.

Aether was a term coined by the Greeks to
designate the atmosphere of the Gods. It was
later thought of as a substance and/or a medium,
of which the existence and function is
scientifically undefined. A common example of its
scientific application is the 19th century
hypothesis of "luminiferous aether"
(light-bearing aether), defining it as the medium
for the propagation of light. Nowadays, most
hypotheses regarding aether are denied by
physicists. However, the word "ethernet" is
derived from the concept of aether, as it
consists of computers communicating over a shared
coaxial cable acting as a broadcast transmission
medium.

Aether as a medium, facilitating transmission
through the global atmosphere, a utopian concept,
inspired the development of the set of narrative
directives set over the course of the workshop
which will guide the performance you are invited
to watch online or @ BAC in Geneva.

The viewing instructions will be made available 3
hours before the start of the performance at the
following address: http://n3krozoft.com/remote
