Thanks a lot!
Did the i810-module ever work on your HP Compaq dc7100 [with other
distributions e.g.]? Did you try Xorg-Xserver on your laptop with
the i810-module already?
Generally I don't want to hack around hwinfo because SuSE did a
pretty good job on that tool. Via bootparameter/cmdline-switch it
will be of course possible to use vesafb on grml. And if startup of
Xserver fails you will find a note about possible problems and their
solutions/workarounds.
