Otto e mezzo

Ich glaube ich hatte für vergangenen Samstag, für die 
Ausstellungseröffnung von «InBetween» wahrlich nicht zu viel 
versprochen. Aber noch gibt es zumindest bis Sonntag Gelegenheit, sich 
die Ausstellung anzusehen. In Ruhe, ohne großes Rambazamba, vielleicht 
behagt das ja jemandem mehr.
Und in der Reihe Architektur in Serie haben Claudia Gerhäußer und 
Franziska Hederer einen ihrer absoluten Wunschfilme an Land gezogen: 
«Otto e mezzo» von Federico Fellini! Diesen Donnerstag in eurem FORUM 
STADTPARK.

«InBetween” is an international collaborative project, which provides a 
two week residence in Graz for painters, sculptors, media, sound, 
interaction and visual artists from 11 different countries. The 
project’s main goal is to define a synergy between analogue and digital 
art and transform it into interactive hybrid artworks.

The aim of the exhibition is to explain, portray and investigate our 
position in between changing truths, meanings and beliefs. What does it 
mean to stand in between? This exhibition depicts a world defined by 
polarities and oppositions. The emergence of an online social life has 
drawn the attention over discussions where the whole world seems to be 
stuck in-between, not knowing if, what or who to believe. However we can 
see that relativism became a huge powerful tool for manipulation in 
modern world, where it is mostly used for propaganda. But instead of 
enriching the debate, we now question what is propagated as possible 
truths. We need to acknowledge that the overflow of informations is 
confusing, shifting, and in some cases is intentionally being subverted.

Federico Fellinis Film karikiert nicht nur die Filmwelt, er ist auch 
einer der Filme, die in Cinecittà gedreht wurden. Fellini selbst 
bezeichnete sich als völlig unpolitisch. Die Filme aus Cinecittà können 
dennoch nicht dessen Geschichte als bedeutendes Filmstudio unter 
Mussolini verheimlichen. Die Filmstadt war Teil unterschiedlichster 
Propagandasysteme seit 1937. Achteinhalb läuft als Phasenfilm der Phase 
PROPAGANDA.

PROPAGANDA
Any type of propaganda works through simple but powerful weapon: 
repetition.

Repetition not only helps to remember things - purpose of repetition is 
to control through subconciousness and in that way, to manipulate. 
Propaganda works exactly the same way: hearing and seeing the same 
things over and over makes us believe in what we hear or see, no matter 
if something is true or not.

Beside that, average life is built on permanent repetition: earth is 
moving, sun is shining, hearts are beating...that's our nature.
