    *»Forms of Resistance in contemporary art and society«*

    Seit den letzten ca. 10 Jahren konzentrieren sich jüngere
    KünstlerInnen wieder auf politische Inhalte und formulieren ihre
    Arbeiten als Widerstand gegen Machtmechanismen. Doch was
    bedeutet für diese Generation, im Unterschied zu den 1968ern,
    "Macht"? Gegen was setzt sie sich zur Wehr? Was motiviert sie?
    Manche dieser KünstlerInnen fokussieren die aktuellen politischen
    Machtstrukturen und gesellschaftlichen Missstände in ihrem Land.
    Viele andere setzen sich jedoch mit übergeordneten politischen
    Zusammenhängen auseinander, wie z.B. mit dem Einfluss der
    Globalisierung, rassistisch motivierten
    Unterdrückungsmechanismen oder der Migration. In dieser
    Ausstellung wird "Macht" als Instrument verstanden, die
    Gesellschaft zu strukturieren. In der künstlerischen Formulierung
    von Kritik am Bestehenden, Aufzeigen von Missständen oder
    Alternativen sind Inhalt und künstlerisches Konzept bzw. Sprache
    -- wie bei den Avantgarden -- häufig gekoppelt. Formen des
    Widerstands werden auch auf konzeptuelle bzw. ästhetische
    Weise erprobt. Die Grenze zwischen legalen und illegalen
    Aktionen wird abgetastet.

    In the last few years, a new artist generation had begun to
    analyse structures of power and to discuss the phenomena of
    resistance against power as a main topic of their work. But what
    means power for this generation? A lot of the artists are focusing
    on the actual power of the state, in which they are living, and its
    systems, but as well on political tendencies in general, for example
    the influence of globalization, especially notions of racism or the
    fact of migration. So, artists are analysing, how the governments
    or EU structures of power are dealing with this matter. In this show,
    'power' is understood as a governmental instrument. The
    thematically approach to resistance against power could lead to
    visual forms of resistance as artistic methods, which stands in the
    avant-garde tradition. As well, this exhibition attempts to point out
    by means of which different methods and stylistic approaches
    this can be done.
