Wir laden Sie herzlich zu unseren Veranstaltungen im Rahmen von 
musikprotokoll ein:

Am Donnerstag um 18 Uhr zu /Echtzeitkunstwelt,/ einer 
Konzert-Performance von Dominik Grünbühel, Norbert Unfug und Sebastian 
Pirch, sowie von Freitag bis Sonntag, als begehbare 
Virtual-Reality-Installation und am Samstag zum Ö1 Klassik-Treffpunkt um 
10 Uhr, live aus dem esc medien kunst labor.
Außerdem haben Sie die Möglichkeit unsere aktuelle Austellung MEIN

/Echtzeitkunstwelt/ist ein Online-Multiplayer-Framework in Virtual 
Reality. Im Zusammenspiel verschiedener Kunstformen (Figurentheater, 
Musik, Tanz, bildende Kunst …) erforscht das Projekt die Möglichkeiten 
von Performance und Liveness im digitalen Raum – immer ortsspezifisch 
angepasst. Für das ORF musikprotokoll erweitern Dominik Grünbühel, 
Norbert Unfug und Sebastian Pirch ihre /Echtzeitkunstwelt/ und bauen ein 
begehbares Musikinstrument in Virtual Reality im esc medien kunst labor. 
Klänge, Beats und Samples werden mit virtuellen Objekten physisch 
manipuliert und erschaffen eine Choreografie: interaktiv, individuell 
oder kollektiv. Durch Blicke oder Bewegungen im Raum können 
Besucher:innen den Verlauf beeinflussen. Regler, die sich durch den 
ganzen Raum erstrecken, und Knöpfe, die vollen Körpereinsatz erfordern, 
machen das Musizieren zu einer physischen Erfahrung. Die 
Online-Multiplayer-Funktion erlaubt Menschen aus aller Welt teilzunehmen.

*MEIN KOERPER : MEINE MASCHINE*

Wie sehr ist mein Körper noch mein Körper, sofern er es je war?

Der menschliche Körper dient als Angriffsfläche der Macht, um einerseits 
auf das Subjekt, andererseits auf die gesamte Gesellschaft zuzugreifen 
(Michel Foucault), es sind es vor allem die großen Techkonzerne, die 
ihre Macht längst nicht mehr nur in ökonomischer Hinsicht ausüben und 
weiter ausbauen.

Diese Entwicklung wird aber auch von uns selbst befeuert. Nur allzu 
gerne sind wir zur Selbstkontrolle (Quantifing Self) bereit, trainieren, 
reparieren, rehabilitieren, modellieren, verschönern und technisieren 
unseren Körper. Die Selbstoptimierung wird dabei ständig von 
verschiedensten Programmen erfasst und die Daten den entsprechenden 
Industrien freiwillig und meist kritiklos zur Verfügung gestellt. Unter 
deren Einfluss steigt der Druck, eigenverantwortlich in unser 
/Körperkapital/ zu investieren.

Die Faszination, die technische Geräte und die damit verbundenen 
Möglichkeiten auf uns ausüben, lässt uns scheinbar kritiklos werden, 
sogar den Human Enhancement Programmen großer Konzerne gegenüber. Nicht 
nur zur Zeit des Futurismus waren die Modelle des Maschinenmenschen noch 
mit Verheißungen und vermeintlich positiven Erwartungen verknüpft, auch 
am Beginn des Internets gab es die Hoffnung, biografische, kulturelle, 
sexuelle und soziologische Festschreibungen zu überwinden. Unterdessen 
wissen wir, wie sehr Normen, Vorurteile, Rassismen, Sexismen et cetera, 
eingeschrieben in Algorithmen, ihren Einfluss auf Körper (besonders auf 
den weiblichen) ausüben.

Ist es die Vision des Google-Entwicklers Ray Kurzweil, der behauptet, 
dass die Menschheit mit Hilfe von Biotechnologie und künstlicher 
Intelligenz ihre biologischen Grenzen im Jahr 2045 überwunden haben wird 
oder sind wir (auch) schon längst dabei unsere physische Existenz 
aufzugeben, wie Paul Virilio meint: werden unsere stillgelegten Körper 
nur mehr zu Hüllen unseres Selbst, das Sein ein ständiges Online-Sein in 
einem nie endenden Datenstrom?

Sunday, as a walk-in virtual reality installation and on Saturday to Ö1 
Klassik-Treffpunkt at 10 am, live from the esc medien kunst labor.
You will also have the opportunity to visit our current exhibition MEIN

/Echtzeitkunstwelt/ is an online multiplayer framework in Virtual 
Reality. In the interplay of different art forms (puppet theatre, music, 
dance, visual arts ...), the project explores the possibilities of 
performance and liveness in digital space - always adapted to specific 
sites. For ORF musikprotokoll, Dominik Grünbühel, Norbert Unfug and 
Sebastian Pirch expand their real-time art world and build a walk-in 
musical instrument in VR at esc medien kunst labor. Sounds, beats and 
samples are physically manipulated with virtual objects and create a 
choreography: interactively, individually or collectively. Visitors can 
influence the course of the choreography by looking or moving around the 
room. Knobs that extend throughout the room and buttons that require 
full physical engagement make music-making a physical experience. The 
online multiplayer function allows people from all over the world to 
participate.

How much is my body still my body, if it ever was?

The human body serves as a contact surface of power to access the 
subject on the one hand, and society as a whole on the other, states 
Michel Foucault. He describes the reciprocal relationship between 
usefulness and compliance of the body in a politics of constraints; the 
human body enters into a machinery of exploitation. Today it is mainly 
the large corporations and internet platforms that have long exercised 
and further extended their power not just in economic terms.

Only too happy to self-regulate, we train, repair, rehabilitate, model, 
beautify and mechanise our bodies with cosmetics, fitness programs, 
supplements and medicines, surgical procedures, prostheses, implants, 
computer-brain interfaces and other technical enhancements. The effort 
and the results are recorded constantly by a range of programs and 
applications, and the data put at the disposal of the data-processing 
industries voluntarily and usually without criticism. Under their 
influence, the pressure to invest in our “body capital” in a 
self-responsible way increases, while non-compliance meets with sanctions.

It is not just in the age of Futurism that models of the machine man 
were still linked with promises and positive expectations, but also at 
the advent of the internet with its associated possibilities of a 
virtual body, a virtual life, e.g. in the form of an avatar in Second 
Life. There was hope that biographical, cultural, sexual and 
sociological fixations would be overcome. We now know the extent to 
which norms, prejudices, racisms, sexisms, etc. anchored in algorithms 
exert their influence on the body (especially the female body), whether 
in staging on social media platforms or on the virtual body on the internet.

Is it the euphoric vision of Google program developer Ray Kurzweil, who 
claims that with the help of biotechnology and artificial intelligence, 
humankind will have overcome its biological limits, i.e. the decline and 
death of the body, by 2045 – or are we already in the process of giving 
up our physical existence, in the sense of Paul Virilio, meaning that 
our disused bodies are merely shells of our self, digital interfaces, 
being as a constant online existence in a never-ending data stream?
