ROBOTS/ von Justine Emard, Eröffnungsexkurs Lisz Hirn, am Donnerstag,
20.5.2021 ab 18.00 Uhr ins Mausoleum Graz zur Installation /La nuit des
temps /und//zur Präsentation der Videoarbeiten/Coexistences /ins esc
medien kunst labor mit anschließendem Empfang ein!

/ /La nuit des temps/ | Installation im Mausoleum
„Der Mensch trägt von Grund auf etwas Künstliches in sich, ist
herausgefallen aus dem organischen Zusammenhang der Schöpfung.“

Die Arbeiten von Justine Emard oszillieren zwischen den auf den ersten
Blick gegensätzlichen Polen Technologie und Spiritualität, erforschen
neue Beziehungen zwischen Mensch und Maschine und deren sinnliches
Potential. Künstliche Geschöpfe bevölkern uralte Mythen, tauchen in den
Laboratorien der Alchemisten auf, erscheinen heute in virtuellen
(Bilder)Welten und leben als Humanoide an unserer Seite.

/Coexistences/ | Videoarbeiten im esc medien kunst labor
„Wir müssen offen bleiben für das, was wir nicht wissen, was wir nicht

Inspiriert vom Shintoismus arbeitet Justine Emard seit 2016 mit
japanischen WissenschaftlerInnen zusammen.
Die dabei entstandenen Videoarbeiten /Co(AI)xistence/ (2017), /Soul
Shift/ (2018) und /Symbiotic Rituals/ (2019) signieren ein Werk, das
zugleich technologisch, poetisch und visuell ist. Alter, ein vom
Ishiguro Lab (Osaka University) und Ikegami Lab (Tokyo University)
entwickelter androider Roboter, wird von einer Künstlichen Intelligenz
gesteuert und durch Kommunikation zum Leben erweckt. Ausgestattet mit
unterschiedlichen Intelligenzen interagieren Mensch und Roboter durch
Zeichen und Signale ihrer jeweiligen Ausdrucksformen, sowohl körperlich
als auch verbal. Durch die gemeinsame Erfahrung versuchen sie, neue
Perspektiven des Zusammenlebens in der Welt zu definieren.

Justine Emard (FRA), Künstlerin. Ihre Arbeiten bewegen sich an der
Schnittstelle von Robotik, Neurowissenschaften, Künstlicher Intelligenz
und organischem Leben. Ausstellungen u.a. in Paris, Tokyo, Singapur, Sao
Paolo, Montreal, London und Karlsruhe. /THE BIRTH OF THE ROBOTS/ ist
Justine Emards erste Ausstellung in Österreich.

"Human carries something artificial in himself from the ground up, has

Justine Emard's works oscillate between the poles of technology and
spirituality, which at first glance appear to be in opposition,
exploring new relationships between man and machine and their sensual
potential. Artificial creatures populate ancient myths, appear in the
laboratories of alchemists, appear today in virtual (image) worlds, and
live alongside us as humanoids.

Inspired by Shintoism, Justine Emard has been collaborating with
Japanese scientists since 2016. The resulting video works
/Co(AI)xistence/(2017), /Soul Shift/(2018), and /Symbiotic
Rituals/(2019) signify a body of work that is at once technological,
poetic, and visual. Alter, an android robot developed by Ishiguro Lab
(Osaka University) and Ikegami Lab (Tokyo University), is controlled by
an Artificial Intelligence and brought to life through communication.
Equipped with different intelligences, humans and robots interact
through signs and signals of their respective expressions, both physical
and verbal. Through their shared experience, they seek to define new
perspectives of living together in the world.

Justine Emard (FRA), artist. Her work is situated at the intersection of
robotics, neuroscience, artificial intelligence and organic life.
Exhibitions in Paris, Tokyo, Singapore, Sao Paolo, Montreal, London and
Karlsruhe, among others. /THE BIRTH OF THE ROBOTS/is Justine Emard's
first exhibition in Austria.
