qubes ist eines der 3 empfohlenen betriebssysteme, die im bericht an das europ. parlament zur überwachungsproblematik und den konsequenzen daraus erwähnt werden.

Qubes OS is an open-source operating system designed to provide strong security for desktop computing using Security by Compartmentalization approach. Qubes OS is based on Xen, the X Window System, and Linux, and can run most Linux applications and utilize most of the Linux drivers. Qubes OS follows a Security by Isolation approach by facilitating the creation of multiple security domains implemented as lightweight Virtual Machines (VMs) running under the Xen hypervisor. The implementation provides strong isolation among these domains so that an attacker who manages to compromise a domain cannot access all the software running in the other domains. From Version 2 of the Qubes OS, Microsoft Windows virtual machines can be set up that allow running native Windows applications.

qubes wäre ein interessantes thema, das man einmal bei einer cryptoparty vorstellen könnte - der stoa-bericht übrigens auch.
