1. INVITATION TO THE INAUGURATION OF THE BIX LIGHT- AND MEDIA
 FAÇADE FOR THE KUNSTHAUS GRAZ ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th 2003

Hereby we kindly invite you to the inauguration of the media façade "BIX" on
September 27th in Graz, Austria.
Highlight will be a set of live audio-visual performances on BIX on the
night of September 27th starting at 19:00h, starring the artists Carsten
Nicolai, realities:united and John de Kron.

Set 1: SKIN DEEP (World Premiere)
realities:united (Berlin) feat. John de Kron (Berlin), music composition Max
Knoth (Berlin)

Set 2: SYNC BIX (World Premiere)
Carsten Nicolai (alva noto. Berlin)

To allow different spectator positions in Graz the sound channel will be
broadcast live by Radio Helsinki (92,6 MHz / http://helsinki.mur.at/ ), Graz
- BRING YOUR MOBILE SOUND SYSTEMS.
Cars with tuned sound systems will act as mobile amplifying units at the
'Uhrturm', the 'Hauptbrücke' and other locations with direct view on the
Kunsthaus.

An after hour lounge party will be held at the Kunsthaus foyer.

2. SHORT INTRODUCTION TO BIX

BIX was conceived, designed and realised by realities:united, Berlin. It is
a 900m2 large media installation made of fluorescent light rings embedded
into the futuristic acrylic glass surface of the Kunsthaus Graz.

However, BIX is less an traditional autonomous piece of art but an
"architectural enabler". BIX aim is to "tune" the biomorphic Kunsthaus
architecture with the help of 930 standard circular 40W fluorescent lights.
Each lamp serves as a pixel, which can be controlled individually by a
central computer. That way simple signs, images and films in low resolution
can be generated over the whole Eastern front.
BIX can be seen as an "urban screen": it is both a new instrument and a
platform for artistic production, made to project the communicative aspect
of the Kunsthaus into public spaceŠ.
In the research field of media facades BIX is likely to set a new standard
for the degree and quality of fusion between architecture and media
technology.
