Dear Friends,

A most peculiar set of behaviours:

1. Using gdm, whether kde or gnome desktop, times are all correctly identified as New York.

2. Using kdm, nothing changes the settings away from Vienna, again, whether gnome or kde desktop, times are cest.

3. The settings, trash, and home folders are missing from kde/konqueror(may or may not be related.

4. Checking it out from gnome or flux, kcontrol will accept the gui order to move timezone to new york, but it does not "take."

5. The usual things, disabling all the time things in autoconfig have no effect.

6. Why would kdm take a different tz setting than gdm?
