Dear Friends at grml,
google lilo information tends to be rather out of date, to say the least -
since grml 0.9 works, well, just works, I need to make what was my experimental partition my main OS.
/dev/sda1 = windows /dev/sda2 = swap /dev/sda3 = old grml /dev/sda4 = new grml
currently, the laptop boots from the old grml, that is lilo is installed to the mbr, but goes to the root at old grml and uses the "other OS" to boot into the new grml.
I wish to have the mbr point to the new grml, in other words, use the sda3 partition for either data, or one of my experiments.
So, how can I re-isntall lilo to the mbr from the new grml without making a mess?
Will lilo -v -v just work?
And, yes, I apologise and know that this is not the right place for this question.
Best, M

Yes - if the config is ok. :)
Make sure to use /dev/sda4 (you 'new grml') as root=- and boot=-option, then everything should be fine. Backup /etc/lilo.conf of old grml just to make sure you can restore the previous state.

Thank you Mika - all is well - Thanks again for the job well done - there is simply no non-functioning aspect to this release that I have seen. I would warn against the faint of heart using the current sid repos, but your pinning and exemplary craftsmanship have made an almost idiot-proof installation possible. I remember my first grml install, which was very good, but required some work to make a facile desktop for a noob. This incarnation is a matter of issuing the command to install and having a complete working desktop ready for anyone with all multimedia, networking, and office stuff ready to roll in less than ninety minutes, with almost no manual editing, other than the odd bit in xorg.conf and the perennial tz and locale fun.
Congratulations.
Very best wishes,
M
