My bad, I tried "sid" first. In Virtualbox this just stalls the entire virtual machine, and kvm (both Debian wheezy) almost instantly gives ...

Perhaps this needs some attention.
FWIW, "testing" does fine at a first glance, then virtualbox crashed due to PEBKAC. More testing during the weekend.
