I have tried that but it did not work as well.  I am thinking it is about EFI (GPT).  I think I will need a way to place some EFI files inside (maybe) /efi/ directory.  I am still digging.

As far as I can see it is a Mac related problem, or rather a refit
related one.

Try to hold down the ALT key when booting, then refit should not appear.
Instead (I hope) the builtin apple Boot menu should appear, with your
flash drive selectable. Try to boot it from this menu, and see what happens.
