"dpkg --purge etckeeper" was the goal to solve the Problem!
Ok but what can I do if I still would like to use etckeeper. As far as I know I can save different States from etc files to  downgrading to the old Version when i get an error in a configuration. Do I have the files manually backup? automatic backup of course, would also be a nice tool to have.

Björn

What's in the process list when running aptitude/apt-get? (ps auxwwww)
Do you use etckeeper? Does removing etckeeper help? (dpkg --purge etckeeper)
What's inside /tmp/log if you execute
"strace -f -eopen -o /tmp/log apt-get install longrun"?
