The X started well, but in fluxbox the fonts are not visible, menu is empty.
Very strange, indeed. One of our developers noticed the same behaviour but I could never reproduce it. ;-( Anyway, I'll take a look at it.
I can send a screenshot. I checked again, this problem only occures when X is started as root. I remember this as a problem with fluxbox 0.9.9 and 0.9.10. Maybe an update to 0.9.12 will help.
Ah! I never run X as root :) - thanks for information!
On one machine the Monitor get "sync out of range" ddcxinfo -hsync -vsync says: "0-0 0-0". In this case a vsync of 60Hz would be better.
Ok, I'll try to find a fix for this.
The Monitor (a very old one) is attached to the computer via switch. This could be a problem. On my notebook also the ddcxinfo gets nothing useful, but here the sync is ok (60Hz).
Ah ok. To be honest I don't want to rely on ddcxinfo, so I will introduce commandline options hsyns + vsync for grml-x2 (and of course check for bootoptions hsync/vsync as well).
So you will be able to boot grml via:
grml hsync=FOO vsync=BAR
or call grml-x2 via:
grml-x2 -hsync=FOO -vsync=BAR fluxbox
I hope this a reasonable solution.
