I accidently sent this to Doug directly rather than to the list. I hope it is of some use. Mo
PS Betsie was on the sourceforge but the development mailing list only shows spam for recent postings.
However the University of York UK may still have it running:
"How do I use Betsie to create a text version of my web page?" http://www.york.ac.uk/services/cserv/help/web/Accessibility/betsie.htm

Hi Doug
Don't know if this fits in with your plans but the BBC used to maintain a perl script called Betsie http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/betsie/ which automatically created text only versions of many or, some, of their web pages.
Now to the best of my knowledge they no longer maintain the script. As web design developed they lost the motivation. "It is now beyond its sell-by date" was the phrase used by a BBC man.
It is possibly untouched for 5 years but it may or may not be of some help to. Perhaps you can hack it into shape. I'm not very skillful with computers. Sorry I could not be of more help. = = =
Thanks to all the grml team for their wonderful efforts. Your patience and detailed explanations are above and beyond the call of duty! You don't know how fine it is for me to read your insights.
