I am sorry, yes you are right, it is sda, and not sda1.

Did you mean sda instead of sda1 in the /proc/partitions output,
right?

Well, that's the reason. :)
what do i do, :).
1 -- i am using a virtualBox, does it mean i have to first using some third party partitioning util like gparted to make a partition. and then try to install grml-medium
2 -- i am using dynamic HDD in virtual box, do i have to use static, and also how much space would i require to run grml-medium. will 2GB be enough. lets say all i need in /home is 300-400 MiB.
