Thank you for the advice I have decided to keep to "grml", so from now the installation will become cleaner and cleaner.
What when 0.9 is in the pipeline and comes out?
,---- | Just run 'aptitude update ; aptitude install grml' to update the | core grml packages. As usual run 'aptitude update ; aptitude | dist-upgrade' to upgrade your whole grml/Debian system. `----

So just handle it like a plain Debian system. The virtual package grml makes sure you get all relevant grml packages up2date.
By default NEWS.Debian¹ is displayed when upgrading the grml package and you will be noticed about the most important changes. A more verbose version is available through the release announcement (as usual on http://grml.org/files/ and linked on several places as soon as a new stable release is available).
Notice: Upgrading the grml-package does *not* automatically upgrade the kernel so you can decide yourselve whether you want to upgrade it or not.
