I got it solved now! it was very simple! I didn't think of having to be root to start speech. I thought it might be as simple as with the cdrom where the user doesn't matter! Sorry for troubling You with such a simple thing!
Ah. :) Great that you could solve the issue. I'll add code to check for proper permissions to the swspeak alias. Thanks for reporting.
