* Der Art’s Birthday (frz. anniversaire de l’art) ist der im Jahr 1963 von dem französischen Fluxus-Künstler Robert Filliou (1926–1987) willkürlich auf den Tag seiner eigenen Geburt, den 17. Jänner und auf 1.000.000 Jahre vor 1963 festgelegte Geburtstag der Kunst.
Der als Hommage an die Kunst initiierte Aktionstag, der die Präsenz der Kunst im täglichen Leben würdigen soll, wird inzwischen jährlich zelebriert und findet weltweit Resonanz. Wir feiern den Geburtstag der Kunst mit einer Liveübertragung aus dem esc mkl mit den unterschiedlichsten akustischen Geschenken von Nayari Castillo, Barbara Edlinger, Leon Erdödy, Seppo Gründler, Max Höfler, Reni Hofmüller, Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka, Hanns Holger Rutz, Margo Sarkisova; Künstler*innenkollektiv Palais Rössl, Wien; Studierende des IEM, Graz!

Klänge der elektromagnetischen Wellen, sich überlagernde Frequenzen unergründlicher Räume – magisch, flüchtig und berührend, das sind die elektropoetischen Klangwelten, die Reni Hofmüller mit den Antennen ihrer Resonating Sculptures erschließt. In Geräusche transformierte Strahlungsemissionen der natürlichen und der menschgemachten Welt, des Kosmos' ebenso wie des technologischen Environments: Rauschen, Knacksen, Zischen, Pfeifen, Vibrieren, Klirren und Klicken, Summen, Schwirren, Schwingen und Dröhnen, Stimmen, Töne und Klänge aus dem Radio.
Seit 2012 beschäftigt sich die Medienkünstlerin, Musikerin, Komponistin, Organisatorin und Aktivistin mit Kommunikationsräumen, die durch den Einsatz von Antennen erzeugt und charakterisiert, im Live-Set musikalisch-improvisatorisch ausgedeutet werden. Sieben Projekte versammelt die Werkgruppe mittlerweile; die Skulpturen sind mobil, klein, schwer, raumgreifend, sie referenzieren Orte und Plätze, für die sie entworfen wurden, und sie haben ihre jeweils eigene Entstehungsgeschichte. Diese bilden sich in den Formen ebenso ab wie das Spektrum dessen, was sie empfangen. Sieben Resonating Sculptures sind in den vergangenen elf Jahren entstanden. Erweitert um eine neue Arbeit wird die Serie im esc medien kunst labor erstmals geschlossen in Graz präsentiert.
Schon Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts hat Nikola Tesla bei seinen ersten Radioversuchen Signale vom Jupiter aufgefangen und sie kraft seiner Vorstellung interpretiert. An dieses Vorstellungsvermögen appellieren die Resonating Sculptures ebenso wie beim Tauchen im Meer das Blau der Tiefe, wie das Rauschen des Radios zwischen den Sendern. Hofmüller: „Aus meiner Klangwelt heraus erschließt sich für mich die Welt.“

* Art's Birthday (French: anniversaire de l'art) is the birthday of art, arbitrarily set in 1963 by the French Fluxus artist Robert Filliou (1926-1987) on the day of his own birth, 17 January, and 1,000,000 years before 1963.
Initiated as a tribute to art and intended to honour the presence of art in everyday life, the day of action is now celebrated annually and resonates worldwide. We celebrate the birthday of art with a live broadcast from the esc mkl with a wide variety of acoustic gifts from Nayari Castillo, Barbara Edlinger, Leon Erdödy, Seppo Gründler, Reni Hofmüller, Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka, Hanns Holger Rutz, Margo Sarkisova; artists* collective Palais Rössl, Vienna; students of the IEM, Graz!

Sounds of electromagnetic waves, overlapping frequencies of unfathomable spaces - magical, fleeting and touching, these are the electro-poetic worlds of sound that Reni Hofmüller opens up with the antennas of her Resonating Sculptures. Radiation emissions from the natural and man-made world, the cosmos and the technological environment transformed into sounds: hissing, crackling, hissing, whistling, vibrating, clanking and clicking, humming, buzzing, vibrating and booming, voices, tones and sounds from the radio.
Since 2012, the media artist, musician, composer, organiser and activist has been working with communication spaces that are created and characterised through the use of antennas and interpreted musically and improvisationally in live sets. The group of works now comprises seven projects; the sculptures are mobile, small, heavy, expansive, they reference places and spaces for which they were designed, and they each have their own history of creation. These are reflected in the forms as well as the spectrum of what they receive. Seven Resonating Sculptures have been created over the past eleven years. Expanded by a new work, the series will be presented in its entirety for the first time in Graz at esc medien kunst labor.
As early as the end of the 19th century, Nikola Tesla picked up signals from Jupiter during his first radio experiments and interpreted them using his imagination. The Resonating Sculptures appeal to this imagination in the same way as the blue of the deep when diving in the sea or the hissing of the radio between the transmitters. Hofmüller: "The world opens up for me from my world of sound."
