wir laden Sie herzlich zur Konzert-Performance Palimpsest mit Kathy Hinde und Daniel Skoglund im Rahmen des ORF musikprotokoll ins esc medien kunst labor ein!
In der Konzert-Performance und Klanginstallation Palimpsest von Kathy Hinde und Daniel Skoglund erzeugen spinnenähnliche Roboterwesen Klänge und Geräusche, die sich zu einer Komposition verdichten. Zeichnungen, Klänge und Projektionen überlagern sich Schicht um Schicht wie bei einem Palimpsest, womit ein Schriftstück bezeichnet wird, von dem der ursprüngliche Text abgeschabt und das danach neu beschriftet wurde, aber noch immer Spuren des alten Textes enthält. Palimpsest lässt die Grenzen zwischen realer Zeichnung, Videoprojektion und Musik allmählich verschwinden.
Palimpsest ist eine der drei Arbeiten der Ausstellung Distant Skies:Pressure Waves mit Kathy Hinde und Daniel Skoglund, die im Rahmen des steirischen herbstes im esc medien kunst labor zu sehen sind. Die Installationen der Ausstellung Distant Skies:Pressure Waves von Kathy Hinde basieren auf der inhaltlichen Verschränkung von Natur und Technologie und öffnen mittels Fiktion, Fantasie und Poesie das utopische Potenzial des Imaginären: Zukunft wird zu einem offenen Raum von Möglichkeiten.

Distant Skies:Pressure Waves
Phase Transition, eine skulpturale Klanginstallation, verbindet das natürliche Geräusch tropfenden Wassers von unterschiedlich schnell schmelzenden Eiswürfeln mit künstlichen, metallischen Klängen zu schwebenden oder pulsierenden Tönen im niedrigen Frequenzbereich. Der Ausstellungsraum wird von Schallwellen durchflutet: wie Wasser fließen sie, steigen an und ebben in nicht vorhersagbaren Mustern wieder ab.
In Flight ist eine für das esc medien kunst labor entwickelte Installation cyborgartiger Origami-Vögel, die von der Decke hängend scheinbar in ferne Welten gleiten. Im Spannungsfeld von Natur und Technologie kann In Flight auch als Metapher interpretiert werden: Wie weit werden unsere Körper in der Anwendung neuer Technologien zu Cyborgs werden? Werden uns die veränderten Umweltbedingungen auf der Erde dazu zwingen, einen neuen Planeten zu besiedeln? Wie reagieren wir auf die Bedrohung sozialer und demokratischer Errungenschaften, welche neuen Denkräume – Distant Skies – sind notwendig, um neue Entwürfe eines gesellschaftlichen Miteinanders zu entwickeln?
In der Klanginstallation Palimpsest von Kathy Hinde und Daniel Skoglund erzeugen spinnenähnliche Roboterwesen Klänge und Geräusche, die sich zu einer Komposition verdichten. Im Rahmen des ORF musikprotokoll wird Palimpsest als Konzert-Performance aufgeführt, in der die Grenzen zwischen realer Zeichnung, Videoprojektion und Musik allmälich verschwinden.

Daniel Skoglund (SE), Klangkünstler, Komponist und Performer; entwickelt und programmiert für seine Projekte neue mechanische und elektrische Maschinen, Interfaces nund Geräte.

We are delighted to invite you to the concert performance Palimpsest with Kathy Hinde and Daniel Skoglund as part of ORF musikprotokoll at esc medien kunst labor.
In Kathy Hinde and Daniel Skoglund’s concert performance and sound installation Palimpsest, spider-like robots generate sounds and noises that condense into a composition. Drawings, sounds and projections are overlaid layer by layer like a palimpsest, a manuscript from which the original text has been scraped away and overwritten, yet which still bears traces of the old writing. In Palimpsest, boundaries between drawing, video projection and music gradually blur
Palimpsest is one our of three works presented in our exhibition Distant Skies:Pressure Waves with Kathy Hinde and Daniel Skoglund as part of the steirischer herbst festival at esc medien kunst labor. Kathy Hinde’s installations in the exhibition Distant Skies:Pressure Waves are based on thematic interweavings of nature and technology. Their use of fiction, fantasy and poetry opens up the Utopian potential of the imaginary: the future becomes an open space of possibilities.

Distant Skies:Pressure Waves
Phase Transition, a sculptural sound installation, blends the natural noise of dripping water from ice cubes melting at different rates with artificial, metallic sounds to create floating or pulsating tones at low frequencies. The exhibition space is flooded with sound waves: these flow, rise and ebb like water, in patterns that cannot be predicted.
Developed especially for esc medien kunst labor, the installation In Flight consists of cyborg-like origami birds. Suspended from the ceiling, they seem to be gliding off towards distant worlds. Between the opposing forces of nature and technology, In Flight can also be interpreted as a metaphor: with the application of new technologies, to what extent will our bodies become cyborgs? Will changing environmental conditions on Earth force us to inhabit new planets? How do we react to threats posed to social and democratic gains, what new thinking spaces – Distant Skies – are required if we are to develop new concepts for social coexistence?
