Wir laden Sie herzlich zum Vortrag (3.7.) und Workshop (4.7.) Conversations with Matter, Paper as Memory, Process and Transformation von und mit Surzhana Radnaeva (FRA) ein! Die Teilnehmer:innen haben die Möglichkeit, Radnaevas Praxis kennenzulernen und mit Textil- und Papierabfällen traditionelle und zeitgenössische Techniken der Papierherstellung selbst auszuprobieren. Sie können sich mit der Künstlerin über Materialkreisläufe, Nachhaltigkeit und künstlerische Zusammenarbeit austauschen (Vortrag und Workshop in englischer Sprache).

In Conversations with Matter, Paper as Memory, Process and Transformation untersucht Surzhana Radnaeva Papier als lebendiges Material, das sich durch Prozesse der Transformation, Pflege und des Experimentierens verändert.

Surzhana Radnaeva: „Conversations with Matter, Paper as Memory, Process and Transformation bietet Einblicke in meine künstlerische Praxis und meine Forschungsmethoden. Anhand von Projektdokumentationen, Materialexperimenten und fertigen Arbeiten möchte ich zeigen, wie die Arbeit mit Materialien meinen Schaffensprozess geprägt hat. Der Vortrag präsentiert eine Auswahl von Forschungsprojekten mit verschiedenen lebenden und biobasierten Materialien, darunter Kombucha-Leder, Materialien auf Algenbasis, Myzel, bakterielle Farbstoffe, handgeschöpftes Papier und andere experimentelle Biomaterialien. Mit der Präsentation sowohl erfolgreicher Projekte als auch laufender Erkundungen reflektiere ich darüber, wie Materialien zu Mitwirkenden in der künstlerischen Forschung werden können und dabei unerwartete Möglichkeiten, Herausforderungen und Formen des Wissens offenbaren. Die Präsentation verdeutlicht, wie das Experimentieren mit Materialien als Brücke zwischen Kunst, Wissenschaft, Ökologie und traditionellen Handwerkspraktiken dienen kann.“

Conversations with Matter, Paper as Memory, Process and Transformation

We cordially invite you to the lecture (July 3) and workshop (July 4) Conversations with Matter, Paper as Memory, Process and Transformation by and with Surzhana Radnaeva (FRA)! Participants will have the opportunity to get to know Radnaeva's practice and to try out traditional and contemporary papermaking techniques using textile and paper waste themselves. Together with the artist, you can exchange ideas on material cycles, sustainability, and artistic collaboration (lecture and workshop in English).

In Conversations with Matter, Paper as Memory, Process and Transformation, Surzhana Radnaeva examines paper as a living material that changes through processes of transformation, care, and experimentation.

Surzhana Radnaeva: “Conversations with Matter, Paper as Memory, Process and Transformation offers insights into my artistic practice and my research methods. Through project documentation, material experiments, and finished works, I want to show how working with materials has shaped my creative process. The lecture presents a selection of research projects involving various living and bio-based materials, including kombucha leather, algae-based materials, mycelium, bacterial dyes, handmade paper, and other experimental biomaterials. By presenting both successful projects and ongoing explorations, I reflect on how materials can become collaborators in artistic research, revealing unexpected possibilities, challenges, and forms of knowledge. The presentation illustrates how experimenting with materials can serve as a bridge between art, science, ecology, and traditional craft practices.”
