Denn den visuellen Reiz, der gemeinhin bei der Betrachtung von Kunst entscheidend ist, hält Friedl für überstrapaziert. Zu lange, zu intensiv, zu aufgeladen sei die meiste Kunst schon von vornherein auf ein zündendes Seherlebnis angelegt. Friedls künstlerische Praxis basiert auf gründlichen Recherchen zur Geschichte und Besonderheit des jeweiligen Ausstellungsorts. So hat er für das Künstlerhaus eine Soundinstallation entwickelt, die dessen Lage inmitten des Grazer Stadtparks als Ausgangspunkt nimmt. <BR><BR>Für die Resultate seiner nicht-materiellen künstlerischen Praxis benutzt Heribert Friedl seit 1996 den Begriff „nonvisualobjects“. Unter selbigem Namen betreibt er gemeinsam mit dem Künstler Raphael Moser seit 2005 auch ein Label, welches für Interpretationen im Bereich des musikalischen Minimalismus steht. Bekanntheit erlangte Friedl aber insbesondere durch seine Duftarbeiten, die auf der wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnis basieren, dass wir visuelle Erlebnisse besser in Erinnerung behalten, wenn wir sie mit bestimmten Gerüchen verbinden. In der neuen, eigens für den Treppenaufgang im Inneren des Künstlerhauses geschaffenen Arbeit bringt Friedl historisches Ereignis und Geruchserlebnis zusammen. <BR><BR>Der Titel der Ausstellung bringt die Soundinstallation mit den Vogelstimmen im Außenraum und die Duftarbeit im Inneren des Künstlerhauses zusammen. Beide vereint, dass sie Bilder aus der Vorstellung hervorrufen. Most art that is designed from the outset to provide a stirring visual experience takes too long, is too intense and too charged. Friedl’s practice of art is based on substantial historical research and the particular qualities of each exhibition site. For the Künstlerhaus he’s developed a sound installation whose starting point is its location in the middle of the Graz City Park. <BR><BR>Since 1996 Friedl’s been using the term “nonvisualobjects” to identify the results of his non-material artistic practice. He and the artist Raphael Moser have also operated a label of the same name since 2005, which releases interpretations of Minimalist music. Friedl, however, has become known chiefly for his “aromatic” works of art, which are based on the scientific fact that we remember visual experiences better when we combine them with certain scents. In a new work made especially for the staircase inside the Künstlerhaus Friedl combines a historical event with an olfactory experience. <BR><BR>The exhibition’s title takes the sound installation and the birdsong outdoors and connects them to the aromatic piece of art inside the Künstlerhaus. What they have in common is that they both evoke images in the mind.
