Cytter dokumentiert und analysiert soziale Beziehungen mit Schwerpunkt auf die zwischenmenschliche Kommunikation und Interaktion im Alltag. Die Künstlerin erzählt Geschichten, die bisweilen Tatsache und Fiktion vermengen und mit witzigen, absurden und hintergründigen Dialogen gespickt sind. Entsprechend der Komplexität der gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse wird Kritik hier nicht einfach ablesbar formuliert, vielmehr werden spezifische Thematiken in aufwendig verfassten Drehbüchern, in der Arbeit mit SchauspielerInnen und dem finalen Schnitt feinfühlig entwickelt und auf einer strukturellen Ebene in erstaunlicher Vielfalt präzise dargestellt. In der Entwicklung ihres künstlerischen Werkes scheint sie fast seismographisch den sozialen Veränderungen unserer Gegenwart zu folgen um den Nerv der Zeit in punktueller und zugespitzter Form in erstaunlicher Dichte zu treffen. Dieses Thema schwang bereits in ihrem bisherigen Werk, das von Malerei über Skulptur bis zu Videos und Installationen reicht, als wichtiger Unterton mit. Mit einer Vorliebe für Randgruppenreize bezieht die Künstlerin ihre Bildwelten aus zwielichten Fanzines, Reality-Crime-TV, Fetisch-Sex-Webseiten, obskuren Internetforen und geheimen Chatrooms, die tief im Dunkel des Netzes verborgen liegen. Das heterogene Quellmaterial wird dann mit eine guten Prise Humor zu vielschichtigen Kompositionen verdichtet, die provokant, aber auch poetisch fragil wirken. Mit ihnen untersucht Bajagić bedeutsame Fragen nach dem Körper, Voyeurismus und visuell vermittelten Machtverhältnissen, ohne dabei unser großes Bedürfnis außer Acht zu lassen, den Bildern einen Wahrheitsgehalt zuzubilligen. Cytter captures and explores human relationships, particularly the behaviors and interactions performed in everyday life. Working with narrative, she plays with humorous, absurd, and subtle dialogues, which at times mix fictitious situations with real life. In accordance with the complexity of social conditions, her critique is not merely legibly formulated; rather specific themes are developed with sensitivity in elaborately written screenplays, in her work with actors, and in the final editing, while on a structural level, everything is precisely depicted in astonishing diversity. In developing her artistic work she appears to trace the changes in society seismographically, striking a timely nerve in an amazingly condensed, pointed, and exact manner. This has been a key undercurrent in a practice that to date spans painting, sculpture, video, and installation. Heeding the lure of the fringes, the artist culls her imagery from fan-gore magazines, true crime TV shows, fetish websites, obscure online forums and hidden chatrooms tucked away in the darker reaches of the Web. She handles these disparate source materials with a dose of humor, working them into densely layered compositions that are at once confrontational and poetically fragile. Through these, she explores laden questions of embodiment, viewership, and visual power relationships—all the while interrogating our driving need to make images accountable.
