Besonders interessieren sie die Ränder und trivialen Fragmente der Sprache, die in der Überfülle der alltäglichen Konversation und Lektüre sonst meist verloren gehen. Indem sie solche Verbindungen dieser Fragmente aufnimmt, generiert sie aus einer Sammlung von Wörtern und Formulierungen ihr textbasierten Arbeiten und Performances. Durch die Aufführung von zufälligen Bewegungen, Gesten, Sätzen und implizierten Phrasen – gesprochen, (oft mit der Hand) mit Farbe auf Leinwand verschmiert, oder wie in ihrem Ausstellungsbeitrag auf Zeitungspapier oder fluoreszierendes Papier getippt – ist sie in der Lage, eine als betäubt wahrgenommene Sprache durch Rekontextualisierung neu zu beleben. <BR><BR>An diesem Abend wird die Künstlerin eine dieser performativen Sprachbe-<BR>lebungen nach langer Zeit wieder live in Österreich, erstmals im Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien in Graz aufführen. Das Team des Künstlerhauses freut sich diesmal besonders über Ihren Besuch der Ausstellung „Sighs Trapped by Liars – Sprache in der Kunst" und der Performance von Sue Tompkins bei freiem Eintritt.<BR><BR>Sue Tompkins wurde 1971 in Leighton Buzzard geboren und absolvierte die Glasgow School of Art. Sie hatte zahlreiche Einzel und Zwei-Personen-Ausstellungen unter anderem in Glasgow International (2014), Micky Schubert, Berlin (2014), The Modern Institute, Glasgow (2013), Diana Stigter, Amsterdam (2013), Inverleith House, Edinburgh (2011), Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (2009) oder Showroom, London (2007). Tompkins präsentierte ihre Performances unter anderem bereits an der Dia Art Foundation (2011), an der Tate Britain (2006) oder im schottischen Pavillon der Venedig Biennale (2005).<BR><BR>--<BR><BR>19-05-<BR>2016 -6pm<BR></SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;text-decoration:underline;" >Performance</SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;text-decoration:underline;" > <BR>Sue Tompkins: Kim do the V</SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" ><BR><BR></SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;text-decoration:underline;" >Sue Tompkins</SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" >’s work is an inquiry into language and personal expression. She is drawn to the marginal and trivial fragments of speech that are otherwise lost in the overload of everyday conversation and reading. Picking up splices of these fragments, she pulls from a collection of remote words and phrases to generate her text-based artworks and performances. By adding random movements, gestures, sentences, and implied phrases—spoken, smeared (often by hand) with paint on canvas, or as shown in the exhibition typed onto newsprint or fluorescent paper—she is able to refresh anesthetized language through recontextualization. On this evening the artist will present live one of her performative animation of language at Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien.<BR><BR>Tompkins was born in Leighton Buzzard in 1971 and graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1994. She has had solo or two-person exhibitions in numerous venues, including Glasgow International (2014), Micky Schubert, Berlin (2014), The Modern Institute, Glasgow(2013), Diana Stigter, Amsterdam (2013), Inverleith House, Edinburgh (2011), Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (2009), and Showroom, London (2007), among others.
