<p class="MsoNormal"><span class="A5"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">Der Beitrag untersucht die veränderte Symbolik in der visuellen Repräsentation von Balkanrevolutionären vom frühen 19. bis zum beginnenden 20. Jahrhundert.
Eine erste vergleichende Untersuchung des Bildmaterials lässt die Schlussfolgerung zu, dass die allmähliche Ersetzung der Malerei durch die Fotografie in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts zu einer visuellen Säkularisierung und Entnationalisierung von
Aufständen gegen das Osmanische Reich führte. Dies ist vermutlich darauf zurückzuführen, dass die Kontexte, in denen gemalte und fotografische Bilder entstanden, völlig unterschiedlich waren.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
