Zunächst war Schafhausen selbst als Künstler tätig, doch stets auf der Suche nach neuen Ausstellungs- und Vermittlungskonzepten wechselte er die Seiten und wurde zu einem der einflussreichsten Kuratoren Deutschlands. Bevor er 2012 zum Direktor der Kunsthalle Wien ernannt wurde, hatte er die Leitung verschiedenster Institutionen inne. Stationen seiner Karriere sind unter anderem das Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, der Frankfurter Kunstverein sowie das Witte de With in Rotterdam. 2007 und 2009 war er für den Deutschen Pavillon der Biennale Venedig zuständig. Darüber hinaus ist er auch Autor und Herausgeber zahlreicher Publikationen zum Thema Gegenwartskunst.<BR><BR>Im Zuge eines Gesprächs mit Sandro Droschl wird Schafhausen die Videoarbeiten der Ausstellung „The Common Sense Substitution“ von Melanie Gilligan erläutern und auf von der Künstlerin aufgeworfene Fragestellungen zur Krise der Ökonomie und ihres politischen Aspekts eingehen.<BR><BR>--<BR><BR></SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;text-decoration:underline;" >An Art Day's Night<BR>Supporting Program on the exhibition of Melanie Gilligan</SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" ><BR><BR>11-02-<BR>2016 -6pm<BR></SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;text-decoration:underline;" >Talk with Nicolaus Schafhausen & Sandro Droschl</SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" ><BR><BR>Nicolaus Schafhausen (b. 1965 in Dusseldorf, lives and works in Vienna and Berlin) studied art history in Berlin and Munich. Initially working as an artist himself, he changed positions while searching for new exhibition- and presentation methods and became one of the most influential curators in Germany. Before being appointed director of the Kunsthalle Wien in 2012, he was responsible for the artistic leadership of institutions, such as Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Witte de With in Rotterdam. In 2007 and 2009 he curated the German Pavilion for the Venice Biennale. Furthermore, Schafhausen is author of numerous publications on contemporary art. <BR><BR>During a talk with Sandro Droschl, Schafhausen will comment on the video works of Melanie Gilligan presented in the exhibition “The Common Sense Substitution” and discuss issues around the topic of the economic crises and its politics.</SPAN><br /><br /><img src="cid:Line.png@B3F5A800.146A.4322.B6A7.8254C2537582">
