Dort gab es abgesehen von den üblichen Greißlerwaren eben auch und vor allem Datteln, Feigen, Südfrüchte, Tee, Kaffee, Kakao und dgl. offen zu kaufen. Am beeindruckendsten war aber immer der riesige Kärntner Speck - um den sich allerei Legenden und Erinnerungen („Wir sind dafür alle paar Wochen mit dem Renault Dauphine über die Pack gefahren...“) ranken - der links hinten von der Decke hing und von dem Herr Glawischnig, auf einer kleinen Leiter stehend, mit einem großen Messer die Stücke herunterschnitt. Dieser Speck war stadtbekannt und die Leute kamen tatsächlich von weit her, um ein Stück zu ergattern.
