International wie auch lokal ist eine zunehmende Reglementierung des Lebens im öffentlichen Raum festzustellen – durch Verbotspolitik, Rücknahme demokratischer Grundrechte, Raumbeschneidungen, gesellschaftliche Schließungstendenzen. Die Ausstellung nähert sich diesen bedenklichen Entwicklungen von der optimistischen Perspektive der „Offenen Stadt“ aus. Sie lädt die Grazer Stadtbevölkerung dazu ein, sich über die im Gang befindliche Werteverschiebung ein Bild zu machen, über die sich schließende oder in manchen Aspekten schon geschlossene Stadt, und sie zeigt die Ambivalenzen auf, die an diese Prozesse geknüpft sind. Denn was für den einen Offenheit bedeutet, mag für den anderen möglicherweise Schließung sein. Wer bestimmt, wer wann und wie die Stadträume nützt?
