Schriften zum Film, August Verlag, Berlin 2012<BR></SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" ><BR>Die internationale Gruppenausstellung </SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;text-decoration:underline;" >Wörter als Türen – in Sprache, Kunst, Film</SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;font-weight: bold;" > </SPAN><SPAN STYLE= "font-family: '';font-size: 13px;" >widmet sich dem gegenseitig durchdringenden Verhältnis von Schrift zu Kunst und Film. So inkongruent die Annäherungen der Räume von Kunst und Film scheinen, die eigentlich vor nicht allzu langer Zeit auch Zugang zu alternativen Wahrnehmungsformen boten, werden deren Diskurse von vielen Film- und Kunsttheoretikern nach wie vor fast durchgehend getrennt denn unter gemeinsamen Aspekten betrachtet, sowohl im Positiven (neu erwachendes Interesse an alten Film-Projektions- und Entwicklungstechniken), als auch im Negativen (etwa die zunehmende ästhetisierende Homogenisierung durch das HD Format).<BR><BR>Unter den inflationär beschleunigten Bedingungen der aktuellen Verbreitung, Produktion und Konsumation von Filmen auf mitunter unüberschaubar zahlreichen, abspieltauglichen Gadgets geht „Wörter als Türen – in Sprache, Kunst, Film" einen großen Schritt zurück. Die Ausstellung setzt vor der eigentlichen Produktion an, in der die grundlegende Konzeption des Films auf der Ebene von Schrift und Drehbuch im Wissen um die repräsentative Funktion von Sprache entwickelt wird.<BR><BR>„Wörter als Türen – in Sprache, Kunst, Film" zeigt sich als Versuch, den Ausstellungsraum selbst als Projektionsfläche zu verstehen, um die materiellen und kulturellen Aspekte künstlerischer Produktion bewegter Bilder oder überhaupt deren Zustandekommen beleuchten zu können. Entlang künstlerischer Schlüsselpositionen von Frances Stark, Pierre Bismuth, David Lamelas, Mario Garcia Torres, und leisen, doppelbödigen cineastischen Hommagen von Sonja Gangl, Matthias Meyer, Michael Baers, kehren viele der gezeigten Arbeiten stets zur hierbei als neuralgisch empfundenen Frage zurück: Wie und ab wann beginnt ein Film, vom Wort aus gedacht?<BR><BR>In diesem Zusammenhang vertrackter wird es, wenn eine nur für einen Film „Am Anfang war das Feuer" (Originaltitel: La Guerre du feu, Jean-Jaques Annaud, 1981) erfundene, noch dazu komplett unverständliche Sprache als Ausgang zur künstlerischen Untersuchung und Arbeit wie im Falle des Ausstellungsbeitrags von Christian Mayer dient. Wie sich Film, der sich von einer zelluloidbasierten Form zur digitalen Informationseinheit entwickelte, bzw. wie sich dessen Erinnerung generierende Betrachtung in eine Skulptur übertragen ließe, welche wiederum selbst neue imaginäre Filme produziert, interessiert Martin Ebner in seiner Arbeit Film ohne Film. Wie denn generell die Wahrnehmungslinien zwischen Film-Betrachter/innen und Kunst-Zuschauer/innen verlaufen oder sich Unterschiede der Filmsprache der Bilder und der bildhaften Sprache der Worte, zwischen dem Schweigen in der Betrachtung eines Bildes und jenes Momentes, in dem sich die vornehmliche Bedeutung zwischen den Worten auflöst, bis hin als Film ohne Bild definieren, sind weitere wesentliche Kernfragen von "Wörter als Türen – in Sprache, Kunst, Film".<BR><BR>Ein Großteil der im Ausstellungskontext versammelten Arbeiten schafft neben einem fiktionalen Eigenleben zudem aktivierende Bezüge, die sich eben auch durch die gewünschte Mitarbeit der Betrachtenden immer wieder neu herstellen: Der Sinnspruch aus dem experimentellem Kurzfilm „Remedial Reading Comprehension" von Owen Land, einem Vertreter des strukturellen Films, gilt stellvertretend für die ganze Ausstellung: „This Is A Film About You... As incongruent as approximations to the spaces of art and film may seem—they rather recently started offering us access to alternative forms of perception—many film and art theorists quite consistently continue to separate their discourse. This applies to common aspects as well, both in a positive sense (newly arising interest in techniques of film projection and development) and a negative one (such as an increasing, aestheticising homogenisation due to the HD format).<BR><BR>Considering the accelerated, inflationary conditions in the current dissemination, production, and consumption of film on gadgets designed for playback that have lately become so multitudinous, "Wörter als Türen – in Sprache, Kunst, Film" takes a major step backwards. The exhibition starts out at a point prior to actual production, where the fundamental concept of film is developed on the level of the written word and the screenplay, with cognisance of the representative function of language.<BR><BR>"Wörter als Türen – in Sprache, Kunst, Film" reflects an attempt at understanding exhibition space itself to be a projection surface for illuminating the material and cultural aspects related to the artistic production of moving images, or to how they were created to begin with. Citing key artistic positions by the likes of Frances Stark, Pierre Bismuth, David Lamelas, and Mario Garcia Torres, as well as gentle, ambiguous cinematic homages by Sonja Gangl, Matthias Meyer, and Michael Baers, many of the works shown in the exhibition allude to a question that may seem neuralgic in this context: How and at what point does a film begin to be conceived through the written word?<BR><BR>This context becomes more complex, for instance, in the case of Christian Mayer’s contribution to the exhibition, when a language created solely for a film (Quest for Fire, original title: La Guerre du feu, Jean-Jacques Annaud, 1981)—and utterly incomprehensible, at that—is taken as a point of origin for artistic investigation and work. Martin Ebner, in his piece Film ohne Film (Film without Film), is fascinated by film and how it developed from a celluloid-based form to a digital unit of information, and how the memory-eliciting viewing of film might be translated into sculptural form, which then in turn engenders new imaginary films. The way in which perceptual strands between film viewers and art viewers run in general is another key issue explored by "Wörter als Türen – in Sprache, Kunst, Film", along with the differences between the filmic language of the images and the pictorial language of the words, between the silence reigning while an image is being viewed and that moment where the principle meaning melts away among the words, to the point of film being defined without visuals.<BR><BR>Many of the works joined within this exhibition context also foster, besides a fictional life of their own, activating references that are reproduced again and again thanks to the welcomed participation of the exhibition visitors. The adage from the short experimental film “Remedial Reading Comprehension” by Owen Land, a representative of structural film, serves to mirror the exhibition as a whole: “This is a film about you . . . not its maker.”</SPAN><br /><br /><img src="cid:Line.png@83ACB2F9.48E7.4AC6.8771.9FCED21754CF">
