Das auslösende Moment war für ihn, der aus dem Arbeitermilieu stammt, eine soziale Aktion: Er hatte einen Sandler – wohl heftiger als erlaubt – verteidigt und war auf Polizei sowie Justiz getroffen. Er ging in die USA; im renommierten Cleveland Institute of Art erhielt er eine Ausbildung.
