Das auslösende Moment war für ihn, der aus dem Arbeitermilieu stammt, eine soziale Aktion: Er hatte einen Sandler – wohl heftiger als erlaubt – verteidigt und war auf Polizei sowie Justiz getroffen. Er ging in die USA; im renommierten Cleveland Institute of Art erhielt er eine Ausbildung. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Österreich (1997) fiel ihm bald das Ortsbild-Monopol der Kriegerdenkmäler für die Gefallenen der deutschen Wehrmacht auf, während auf den Monumenten der US-Soldatenfriedhöfe allen Opfern verschiedener Nationen gedacht wird.<o:p></o:p></font></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><span style="color: black; "><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Verdana" size="4">Gemeinsam mit den US-KünstlerInnen Will Contino, Emily Hines und Douglas Hoagg, dem Literaturwissenschafter Klaus Zeyringer und der Steirischen Kulturinitiative gelang es ihm im Juni 2011 in Pöllau erstmals eine Skulptur zu realisieren, die ausdrücklich an die Alliierten-Opfer als Befreier vom Nationalsozialismus in Österreich erinnert. <br>Dies gelang nicht zuletzt dadurch, dass sich an die 200 SchriftstellerInnen, KünstlerInnen und KunstorganisatorInnen für die öffentliche Aufstellung der skulptur in Pöllau, also in der „Provinz“ einsetzten und einige weitere Schützenhöfer bei einer Erweiterung dieser Thematik mit anderen künstlerischen Zugängen unterstützten.<o:p></o:p></font></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><span style="color: black; "><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Verdana" size="4">Ergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit ist die auch im stadtmuseumgraz präsentierte Multimedia-Ausstellung LIBERATION IN PROGRESS, die entlang der in Österreich seit 67 Jahren immer wieder ausgeblendeten Thematik zwischen „Anschluss“ und „Befreiung“entwickelt wurde.<o:p></o:p></font></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><span style="color: black; "><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Verdana" size="4">In seinem letzten USA Aufenthalt 2012 arbeitete Schützenhöfer gemeinsam mit Studierenden des Maryland Institute College of Art an einer neuen Kleidung für die ansässige Polizei, deren Ziel es ist, die Härte und Starrheit der aktuellen Uniformen durch Muster und weichere Schnitte zu entkräften und so ein verändertes Bild auf die Exekutive und deren Machtfunktionen zu erschaffen.</font><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Verdana" size="5"><o:p></o:p></font></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(255, 0, 128); font-family: Verdana; font-size: 19px; ">******************************************************</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><font class="Apple-style-span" color="#ff0080" face="Verdana" style="font-size: 19px; "><i>coming up</i></font></p><div><br></div><div><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Verdana; ">DIE WAND_VOL. 02: Josef Schützenhöfer</span><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Verdana; color: black; "> <br><span> </span></span><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Verdana; ">"...wollt Ihr die totale Sicherheit</span><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Calibri; ">?"</span><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Verdana; "><br></span><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Verdana; color: black; "><br></span><span style="color: rgb(20, 20, 19); "><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Verdana" size="4">Die - einer klassischen Werbetafel nachempfundene - Wand an der B73 in unmittelbarer Nähe der Mühle wird im Laufe des Programmjahres von 3 KünstlerInnen gestaltet. </font><br><br><font class="Apple-style-span" size="4"><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Verdana">Nach Kerstin Rajnar_frau mag rosa pink führt der Maler Josef Schützenhöfer den Prozess der konkreten Utopie weiter und zeichnet sein Szenario menschlicher Bedürfnisse. </font><br><br></font></span><i><span style="font-family: Verdana; color: rgb(20, 20, 19); "><font class="Apple-style-span" size="4">Dem Konsum von materiellen Gütern wird der Konsum von Kunst entgegengestellt.
