hallo com(m)unity,

nach 2 jahren arbeit ist nun unser ersters buch fertig. mit dem titel
"architecture of the networks" beschreibt es einen anderen zugang zu
zeitgenössischen architektur/kunst/design theorie-praxis.
es wird ausserdem hoffentlich klarer warum ORTLOS architects seit jahren ein
knoten von mur.at netztwerk ist. das buch ist wirklich toll geworden,
besonders spannend die kooperation mit der graphik-design legende carson.
thom mayne ist btw. pritzker preisträger 2005.
in vier tagen gibt es die erste öffentliche buchpräsentation im stadtmuseum
graz (siehe text unten), somit laden wir euch alle hiermit herzlich ein.

Die Publikation stellt ein Dutzend Projekte des virtuellen Architekturbüros
ORTLOS aus den Jahren 2000 bis 2003 vor - einer Plattform, die sich mit
experimenteller Architektur, Stadtplanung, Medientheorie,
Kunstinstallationen, mit Produkt- und Interfacedesign beschäftigt.
Architekten, Web-Designer, Medientheoretiker, Medienkünstler und
IT-Spezialisten aus der ganzen Welt arbeiten »ortlos« zusammen, also
unabhängig von einem spezifischen Arbeitsort. Dabei bestimmt das Denken und
Gestalten in trans-lokalen, zu Netzwerken verbundenen Umgebungen das Konzept
der Gruppe grundsätzlich.
Die Architekten von ORTLOS beschreiben das »Ende der Architektur« in
vergleichbar radikaler Weise wie die amerikanische Grafik-Legende David
Carson das »Ende des Druckmediums«. Die ungewöhnliche gestalterische
Zusammenarbeit ermöglichte ein äußerst progressives, einzigartiges
Buchprojekt.

Ortlos is German for "placeless." It is also the appropriate designation for
a virtual architectural office and discussion forum dealing with
experimental architecture, urban planning, media theory, art installations,
and product and interface design. Architects, web designers, media
theorists, media artists, and information-technology specialists from around
the world work together off-site, independent of a specific workplace. The
conceptual and design process goes on in collaboration in a trans-local
environment, created out of a network of virtually combined workplaces.
ORTLOS architects characterize the "end of architecture" in a way that is
comparable to American graphic-design legend David Carson's radical
description of the "end of the print medium." This unique publication, the
result of an unusual creative collaboration between ORTLOS architects and
Carson, presents a dozen projects, dating from 2000 to 2003.
